Proper Use Of Ammoniated Low-Quality Forages For The Wintering Of Spring-Calving Beef Cow Herds In The Intermountain West, D. R. Zobell

Low‐quality forages (LQF) such as cereal straws or post‐ripe hays are often used as economical feed sources for the wintering of beef cow herds. The ammoniation of such forages increases the digestibility and crude protein (CP) enough so that these forages can be used as the basis of beef cow diets, even during late gestation and early lactation if supplemented properly.

Reducing Losses Due To Tall Larkspur Poisoning, Usu Extension

Tall larkspur reduces pasture use and can cause death in cattle. In the West, overingestion of tall larkspur causes average death losses of 4-5%, but can exceed 15% on some ranches. In addition, the presence of tall larkspur in some pastures may force ranchers to avoid those pastures during peak forage growth in late spring and early summer.

Estimating Tessellation Parameter Intervals For Rational Curves And Surfaces, Thomas W. Sederberg, Jianmin Zheng

This paper presents a method for determining a priori a constant parameter interval with which a rational curve or surface can be tessellated such that the deviation of the curve or surface from its piecewise linear approximation is within a specified tolerance. The parameter interval is estimated based on information about the second order derivatives in the homogeneous coordinates, instead of using affine coordinates directly. This new step size can be found with roughly the same amount of computation as the step size presented in [Cheng 1992], though it can be proven to always be larger than Cheng's step size. …

They are exposed to physical exertion, unfamiliar smells, tastes, sounds, people, cattle and other animals Owners of beef cattle who place them in these situations need to understand that stress can be reduced or eliminated with proper care and management.

Real estate price indices based solely on samples of sold properties may not accurately represent the population of properties due to potential sample-selection bias. This study addresses this potential for sample-selection bias in the construction of commercial price indices within the context of the Phoenix area of®ce market. The empirical analysis con®rms the presence of sample-selection bias in the estimation of the total price equation. However, within this sample, the price indices generated after correcting for sample-selection bias do not appear signi®cantly different from those that do not consider selectivity bias.

The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch is a charming children's picture book. Part of its charm lies in its ability to anticipate the conventions of the fairy tale genre, creating expectations for readers, then pushing the boundaries of the genre in novel ways. As the story moves outside traditional expectations with its unexpected reversals (the princess fights the dragon to save the prince, and the fight is more mental trickery than physical battle), the boundaries of the genre are muddied, making my secondary students smile when I read to them. Matched tar/char sets were prepared by pyrolysis of a lignite and a bituminous coal in two entrained flow reactors at temperatures between 900 K and 1650 K and heating rates of 10⁴–10⁵ K/s. Detailed chemical structural characterization of these tars and chars was performed using elemental analysis and solid-state ¹³C NMR. This is the first set of detailed solid-state ¹³C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data on coal tar samples. The global nth order rate equation has been criticized for lack of theoretical basis and has been shown to be inadequate for modeling char oxidation rates as a function of total gas pressure. The simple Langmuir rate equation is believed to have more potential for modeling high pressure char oxidation. The intrinsic Langmuir rate equation is applied to graphite flake oxidation data and agrees well with reaction rates at three temperatures over the entire range of oxygen pressure (1–64 atm). Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of bilateral botulinum toxin injection into the thyroarytenoid (TA) muscles of a patient with essential voice tremor. Acoustic and aerodynamic data were collected weekly over a 16-week period. Flexible nasolaryngoscopy was performed prior to injection and 2, 6, 10, and 16 weeks post injection. Perceptual analyses of the acoustic and nasolaryngoscopic data were performed. A reduction in frequency tremor and, to a lesser extent, amplitude tremor was observed during the 1-10 week period. Estimated laryngeal resistance decreased after injection and was accompanied in perceptual measures by a reduction in …

There is considerable interest in the dynamics of ultracold plasmas and ultracold Rydberg gases. Ultracold plasmas are typically formed by photo-excitation of ultracold atoms to an energy region near (both above and below) an ionization threshold. Excitation to bound, highly-excited Rydberg states can lead to formation of a plasma via several processes, including collisions between Rydberg atoms. Three-body recombination in an ultracold plasma can also result in the production of ultracold Rydberg atoms. Understanding the dynamics of ultracold Rydberg gases is therefore important for understanding the dynamics of ultracold plasmas. This study compared the effectiveness of two brief interventions, direct advice and motivational interviewing, for increasing motivation to quit among male smokers in the pre-contemplation and contemplation stages of change who were primary care patients at an Eastern urban VA medical center. Contrary to expectations, participants receiving motivational interviews did not increase more in readiness to change, motivation, and actions to quit, than those receiving direct advice or a control conversation, nor did they smoke fewer cigarettes per day. As expected, contemplators reported more cutting down and quit attempts than pre-contemplators. Factors that may have limited the effectiveness of interventions …

The Supreme Court recognized the federal psychotherapist- patient privilege in Jaffee v. Redmond and conditioned its application on the existence of a "course of diagnosis or treatment" within which a psychotherapist and patient exchanged confidential communications. The Court expressly precluded trial courts from conditioning privilege application on the favorable balance of a given patient's need for privacy over the extent of evidentiary harm likely to be caused by applying the privilege. The Supreme Court's Americans with Disabilities Act decisions in Sutton v. United Air Lines and its companion cases have been extensively criticized as inconsistent with the ADA's purpose and legislative history. In Sutton, the Court held that corrective measures used by an individual to alleviate the effects of a physical or mental impairment should be taken into account when assessing whether a person has a disability under the ADA. The Court's ruling rejected the EEOC's interpretive guidance and the approach taken by a majority of circuit courts. Personal values are increasingly recognized as important factors in work environments, including health care systems (Cameron & Whetten, 1995; Covey, Merrill, & Merrill, 1995; Fagermoen, 1997). The personal values of nursing students have been explored (Eddy, Elfrink, Weis, & Schank, 1994; Sivberg & Petersson, 1997) as have those of nurses, in the context of work design (Koerner, 1993 ).
