Biotechnology In Western Australian Agriculture, Agriculture Western Australia
Biotechnology In Western Australian Agriculture, Agriculture Western Australia
Grain and other field crops published reports
The Government of Western Australia believes that the strategic use of biotechnology and particularly gene technology has the potential to offer Western Australian agriculture significant economic benefits by improving the productivity and quality of products, as well as contributing to the development of sustainable farming systems.
Information contained in these binders is intended to give an overview of Biotechnology in relation to what is occurring in Australia, in Western Australia and specifically, at Agriculture Western Australia (AGWEST).
Biotechnology has been around for twenty-five years or more, but has only recently become a public issue in Australia - particularly in relation …

The South American Neritic Copepod Ctenocalanus Heronae Vega-Pérez And Bowman (Calanoida) In The Gulf Of Mexico, With Comments On The Taxonomy Of The Genus, E. Suarez-Morales, A. Leon-Oropeza
Gulf and Caribbean Research
A single adult female specimen of the calanoid copepod Ctenocalanus heronaeVega-Pérez and Bowman was collected during a zooplankton survey carried out in February 1997 in Campeche Sound, the central-southeastern portion of the Gulf of Mexico. The taxonomy of the genus Ctenocalanus Giesbrecht is still unclear. Characters used to separate the species have been considered rather subtle. In this paper the taxonomic illustrations of the specimen collected are accompanied by a revision of the taxonomic features commonly used to identify the species. New, previously overlooked characters such as the cephalosome/urosome ratio, the shape of the 5th legs and particularly the …
Relationship Between Pea Crab (Pinnotheres Maculatus) Parasitism And Gonad Mass Of The Bay Scallop (Argopecten Irradians), Paul A.X. Bologna, Kenneth L. Heck Jr.
Relationship Between Pea Crab (Pinnotheres Maculatus) Parasitism And Gonad Mass Of The Bay Scallop (Argopecten Irradians), Paul A.X. Bologna, Kenneth L. Heck Jr.
Gulf and Caribbean Research
We investigated the prevalence of pea crabs (Pinnotheres maculatus) in bay scallops (Argopecten irradians) from 1994 through 1996 in a scallop population from St. Joseph Bay, Florida. We also assessed their impacts on scallop reproductive potential. Our results showed that prevalence in bay scallops varied between 0 and 20% and were extremely low during 1996 (<2%). Comparing Gonadal-Somatic Indices (GSI) between infested and non-infested bay scallops in samples assessed the impact of pinnotherid parasitism. Results showed that GSI was significantly reduced in infested individuals compared to non-infested individuals of the same size range (t12 = 2.3, P <0.04). These results suggest that P. maculatus infestation may lower the reproductive potential of individual scallops, but the low rates of parasitism may only minimally impact the host population.

Feasibility Of Inducing Overlap Immunologic Competence In Gallinaceous Birds With Ascardia Dissimilis And A. Galli, Julie Hamilton, Thomas A. Yazwinski
Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences
Chickens and turkeys are routinely infected with the roundworms Ascaridia galli and A. dissimilis, respectively. The current study was conducted to gather basic information on these worms and to determine whether heterologous infections (chicken worms in turkeys and turkey worms in chickens) would be successful. Chickens and turkeys were obtained at day of hatch, brooded to 7 days of age, and placed in pens (25/pen) according to infection as received at 7 days of age: homologous, heterologous and control (no infection). Bird weights, mortalities, and feed efficiencies were monitored for 3 weeks postinfection, at which time all birds were killed …

Erasing Race? A Critical Race Feminist View Of Internet Identity Shifting, Margaret Chon
Faculty Articles
Race and gender become even more abstract in the disembodied presence they inhabit online. This article outlines the importance of being sensitive to the under-identified online presence of race and gender related issues, with an in depth discussion of the complications these issues face.

We clinically assessed and performed polymerase chain reaction analysis for the GAA trinucleotide repeat expansion in 103 patients from 73 families in Ireland, with a prior clinical diagnosis of Friedreich’s ataxia (FA) or an unclassified progressive ataxic syndrome. The patients were classified as “typical” or “atypical” FA according to Harding’s mandatory clinical diagnostic criteria. All patients underwent blood glucose analysis, and electrocardiography and echocardiography was performed in 99 and 101 patients, respectively. Mutation screening for expanded CAG trinucleotide repeats, associated with spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) 1, 2, 3 and 6 was performed in 86 patients overall, including all GAA negative patients. …
The Millenium Survey, John B. Davis
The Millenium Survey, John B. Davis
Economics Faculty Research and Publications
Pryor’s Millennium Survey results need to be understood in the context of economists’ different economic models appropriate to different institutional frameworks. These variable/institutional framework subsystems in turn may be distinguished according to whether the variables involved exhibit considerable deviation from trend and whether significant institutional change is anticipated. One such subsystem, involving globalization, financial volatility, and income inequality, seems to be relatively independent of a subsystem made up of the domestic economy as a whole.

Efficient Presentations For Some Direct Products Of Groups, Bi̇lal Vatansever, David M. Gill
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper we give efficient presentations for $A_4\times D_n$, where n is odd number, or n is even number and (n,3)=1. We also give efficient presentations for $A_5\times D_n$ where n is an even or odd number.

Some Results On Derivation Groups, Murat Alp
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper we describe a share package XMOD of functions for computing with finite, permutation crossed modules, their morphisms and derivations; cat$^1$-groups, their morphisms and their sections, written using the GAP \cite{GAP} group theory programming language. We also give some mathematical results for derivations. These results are suggested by the output produced by the XMOD package.

A Remark On The Asymptotic Properties Of Positive Homogeneous Maps On Homogeneous Lattices, Alp Eden

An abstract version of Lyapunov exponents is defined for positive homogeneous maps on Homogeneous Lattices and a sufficient condition is given for the asymptotic stability of the map.
Multipliers Between Orlicz Sequence Spaces, P. B. Djakov, M. S. Ramanuan
Multipliers Between Orlicz Sequence Spaces, P. B. Djakov, M. S. Ramanuan
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Let $M, N $ be Orlicz functions, and let $D(\ell_M , \ell_N ) $ be the space of all diagonal operators (that is multipliers) acting between the Orlicz sequence spaces $\ell_M$ and $\ell_N$. We prove that the space of multipliers $D(\ell_M , \ell_N )$ coincides with (and is isomorphic to) the Orlicz sequence space $ \ell_{M_N^{*}} ,$ where $ M_N^{*} $ is the Orlicz function defined by $M_N^{*}(\lambda ) = \sup \{ N(\lambda x) - M(x), \; x \in (0,1) \}$.
