Seasonal And Spatial Variation Of Subgrade Response, Mustaque Hossain, Stefan Romanoschi, Andrew J. Gisi Jan 2000

Seasonal And Spatial Variation Of Subgrade Response, Mustaque Hossain, Stefan Romanoschi, Andrew J. Gisi

Civil Engineering Faculty Publications - Archive

Temperature, subgrade moisture content, and Falling Weight Defleetometer (FWD)-deflection data were collected monthly on four asphalt pavement test sections in Kansas for a year. The subgrade moduli were baekealeulated using the elastic layer theory. It was found that for almost all sites, the monthly variation in subgrade moisture content was not very significant over the seasons. The patterns of subgrade response, in terms of subgrade moduli versus time, simulated sine-shaped forms signifying a possible temperature effect. Higher variabilities across the site were associated with the extreme temperature conditions, usually very low or high average pavement temperatures. In all cases, the …

Remote Sensing Of Fractures And Karstic Infiltration Features In The Kankakee River Basin Near Bourbonnais, Illinois, Rebecca Vershaw

Honors Capstones

The Kankakee River in Illinois is structurally influenced and not channelized as it is in Indiana. Therefore, structural data taken from outcrops along the river basin and from remote sensing data can be used to infer the groundwater flow direction along the river. Karst topography is associated with the Kankakee River Basin near Bourbonnais, Illinois. It it thought that the recharge and discharge of the river segment is probably dependent on rainfall and thus, the karst conduits in the region. Pollutatns can also be distributed through karst conduits and enter the river this way. Identifying the relationship and orientation of …

Applying Classical Industry Analysis Techniques To An Emerging Industry : Issues In The Internet Industry, John La Monica Jan 2000

Applying Classical Industry Analysis Techniques To An Emerging Industry : Issues In The Internet Industry, John La Monica

Honors Capstones

Strategic management literature has provided frameworks for examining established industries. Firms use these frameworks to understand the dynamics of the industries in which they compete and to evaluate industries that they might wish to enter. Additionally, investors and analysts use these types of frameworks to determine the likelihood of a business's profitability and survival in an already existing industry. Traditionally, these frameworks were developed and used to analyze established industries. The industry of interest in this study is the emerging Internet industry. The research questions driving this inquiry: What are the dynamics of the Internet industry? Can we use the …

Postcolonial Theory And The United States: Race, Ethnicity, And Literature, A. Singh, Peter Schmidt

English Literature Faculty Works

At the beginning of the twenty-first century, we may be in a "transnational" moment, increasingly aware of the ways in which local and national narratives, in literature and elsewhere, cannot be conceived apart from a radically new sense of shared human histories and global interdependence. To think transnationally about literature, history, and culture requires a study of the evolution of hybrid identities within nation-states and diasporic identities across national boundaries. Studies addressing issues of race, ethnicity, and empire in U.S. culture have provided some of the most innova-tive and controversial contributions to recent scholarship. "Postcolonial Theory and the United States: …
