Universal Quantum Limits On Single-Channel Information, Entropy, And Heat Flow, Miles Blencowe, Vincenzo Vitelli
Universal Quantum Limits On Single-Channel Information, Entropy, And Heat Flow, Miles Blencowe, Vincenzo Vitelli
Dartmouth Scholarship
We show that the recently discovered universal upper bound on the thermal conductance of a single channel comprising particles obeying arbitrary fractional statistics is in fact a consequence of a more general universal upper bound, involving the averaged entropy and energy currents of a single channel connecting heat reservoirs with arbitrary temperatures and chemical potentials. The latter upper bound in turn leads, via Holevo's theorem, to a universal (i.e., statistics independent) upper bound on the optimum capacity for classical information transmission down a single, wideband quantum channel.

Strengthening The Leasing Sector, Ishrat Husain Dr.
Faculty Research - Talks, Speeches, & Discourse
It gives me immense pleasure to be present at this first International Conference on small and micro leasing being held in Pakistan. The focus of the Conference on small and micro enterprises is timely as this sector is receiving high priority from the Government. The small and micro enterprises can play a crucial role in poverty alleviation and the Government has taken many decisions in this regard, foremost amongst which has been the formation of Khusali Bank – a bank specifically established for micro enterprises.

The Voice: 1991-2000
This edition of the Wooster Voice, published on November 2, is twelve pages long. Emily Welty, a 2000 Wooster graduate who was in Israel on the Watson Fellowship, was evacuated from Israel when a travel warning was issued. The Telesoft Corporation is becoming unreliable, not following through with expected agreements and bill release dates. The second page is filled with the article, "Students provide insight for future." Last night, Pulitzer Prize winner W.D. Snodgrass read the poem "The Death of Cock Robin." David Powell wrote an article on page 9 about the optimism and hope behind U2's new album. The …

Electrical Conductivity Of Nanocrystalline Ceria And Zirconia Thin Films, Igor Kosacki, Toshio Suzuki, Vladimir Petrovsky, Harlan U. Anderson
Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The results of studies of the preparation, structure and electrical conductivity of ZrO2:16% Y and CeO2 thin films are presented. Dense films with grain size controlled in the region of 1-400 nm have been obtained on monocrystalline sapphire and polycrystalline Al2O3 substrates using a polymeric precursor spin coating method. The electrical conductivity of nanocrystalline thin films has been studied as a function of oxygen activity and temperature and correlated with the microstructure. Nanocrystalline specimens are characterized by enhanced electrical conductivity and different stoichiometry compared with microcrystalline material.

Cytoplasmic Filament-Deficient Mutant Of Treponema Denticola Has Pleiotropic Defects, Jacques Izard, William A. Samsonoff, Ronald J. Limberger
Department of Food Science and Technology: Faculty Publications
In Treponema denticola, a ribbon-like structure of cytoplasmic filaments spans the cytoplasm at all stages of the cell division process. Insertional inactivation was used as a first step to determine the function of the cytoplasmic filaments. A suicide plasmid was constructed that contained part of cfpA and a nonpolar erythromycin resistance cassette (ermF and ermAM) inserted near the beginning of the gene. The plasmid was electroporated into T. denticola, and double-crossover recombinants which had the chromosomal copy of cfpA insertionally inactivated were selected. Immunoblotting and electron microscopy confirmed the lack of cytoplasmic filaments. The mutant was further …
