52 amniotic fluid (AF) of women at (18-22 weeks) of pregnancy {10-15ml each were sampled because of ab­normal ultrasound findings mainly non-immune hydrops fetalis (N.I.H.F). They were analysed by a procedure involving AF supernatant analysis for total glycosaminoglycans (Total GAG) by formation of complex­es with Quinacrine reagent and the pregnancies at increased risk of mu-copolysaccharidosis (MPs) i.e with in­creased total GAG (over 100 mg/l) (12 cases) were enzymatically as­sayed for a group of enzymes : N-acetyl-B-glucose aminidase (NAGA), p-glucuronidase (B-GLA), p-galactosidase (B-GALS) and Aryl sul-fatase (ASA) by measuring the fluo­rescence of the corresponding 4- methylumbelliferyl- glycoside to each one. The important role of ascorbic acid is especially relevant in diabetes mellitus where plasma concentrations of ascorbic acid are reduced. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of ascorbic acid administration on diabetic polyneuropathy. Twenty-two patients having non- insulin de­pendent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) were included in the study with 10 healthy control subjects of matched age and sex. The patients received SOOmg twice daily of ascorbic acid in addition to their usual antidiabetic therapy, and the study was conduced for three months. Various measuments of the great­er sciatic notch (G.S.N.) e.g. width, depth and length of the posterior seg­ment of the width were measured, and indices I and II were obtained from lateral radiographs of the pelves of168sub]ecs (78 males and 90 fe­males). These subjects ranged in age from one to twenty years. Total and posterior angles were measured in each case. Width, depth and posterior seg­ment length of the G.S.N. were found valueless for sexing purposes before the age of 14 years. Colostomy construction is a com­mon surgical procedure in infants with anorectal malformations. There is a general agreement that the best one for these cases is a completely divert­ing left lower quadarnt colostomy. Although low descending colostomy with stomas separated by a suture line has many advantages, it is ac­companied by may complications which are mainly related to the pres­ence of such a suture line adjacent to the stomas. Adult male albino rats were given cadmium chloride (Cd cl2) dissolved in H20 by intragastric intubation in a daily dose 1/5 of the LDso/Kg, body weight. At the end of the 2"d and 5th month of cadmium (Cd) administra­tion, Specimens from the kidney cor­tex, the liver and the testis were pre­pared for examination by transmission electron microscope. This study concentrated on the self-esteem of at-risk middle school students in a mid-west city involved in an alternative school Mentorship Program. This study examined two aspects of a structured mentorship program for at-risk youth attending an alternative middle school. The first purpose of the study was to evaluate the possible effect of the mentorship program on the self-esteem of the student, while the second purpose was to examine the perceptions of the program's participants. This thesis attempted to replicate the results of the Decker and Rotondo (1999) study by using a similar survey, but testing in three different work settings using a broader age demographic. The results of this study confirm many of the findings by Decker and Rotondo (1999), as well as the findings of Thorson and Powell (1993,1996, 1997) concerning the Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale (MSHS). The present research revealed that the MSHS scores were age and gender neutral, suggesting that sense of humor in people does not vary according to gender or age. Despite the abundance of drug prevention programs in this country, drug usage among America’s youth continues to grow. This project will examine one emerging school-based prevention program designed to develop resistance skills that have been proven to help students oppose those risky behaviors. Prior to this examination the extent of drug use by American school children is discussed, followed by an extensive literature review evaluation. This research examined the effects of a program designed to teach a model of conflict resolution to pre-release inmates and their partners. Three inmates and their significant others were given tools that assessed their conflict resolution style and the cohesion and adaptability of their family unit at the start of an eight-week group. These scores were compared to scores taken at the end of the eight-week group and after 90 days. The scores showed a significant increase in the participants' style of conflict resolution. Nebraska school board presidents (n=604) were asked to respond to a 36-item questionnaire that addressed the issues of health education and the Internet use policy regulating Internet use in the public schools. The response rate was 22.3 percent (n=135). Nebraska school board presidents reported that health education was not an important item to take into consideration when developing an Internet use policy, but reported that that sexual content, drug content, violence-related material and commercial content, respectively were very important items the Internet use policy should regulate. The debate between Hans-Georg Gadamer and Jürgen Habermas provides a fresh perspective from which Confucian philosophy may be approached. In this paper, focusing on the Lunyu (Analects), I argue that the sayings of Confucius reflect an essentially 'conservative' orientation, finding in tradition a reservoir of insight and truth. There is a critical dimension to it in that ethical reflection and self-cultivation would enable the individual to challenge particular claims of tradition. However, can self-cultivation transcend tradition as a whole and enable the individual to effect radical change? Over the years there have been large increases in the number of drug offenders arrested, prosecuted, and sentenced to prison. These increases have lead to an overload of the criminal justice system. This overload prompted states to develop new responses to substance use and drug-related crime. One such innovation is the drug treatment court, which combines accountability and treatment. The goal of these courts is to reduce recidivism and substance use among drug-involved criminal offenders. We study a complex optimization problem that arises due to an emerging trend in distribution logistics. The problem involves the integration of an inventory management problem and the vehicle routing problem with time windows, both of which are known to be NP-hard. We describe a collaborative approach to solve this problem in real-time. The novelty of our approach lies in the tight algorithmic integration between two sub-problems, and suggests an elegant scheme to deal with other integrated optimization problems of the same nature. This study documented the leadership messages sent to women in 16 of the National Panhellenic Conference groups' official literature. The purpose of the study was to provide detailed descriptive analysis using excerpts from the official literature to show both traditional and non-traditional (women's ways of leading) theoretical themes as well as to determine the use of followership versus leadership messages to women. The approach to this study was the use of qualitative content analysis whereby messages were collapsed into larger theme categories. In this Essay, Professor Douglas conducts an historical review of religious attitudes toward capital punishment and the influence of those attitudes on the state's use of the death penalty. He surveys the Christian Church's strong support for capital punishment throughout most of its history, along with recent expressions of opposition from many Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish groups. Despite this recent abolitionist sentiment from an array of religious institutions, Professor Douglas notes a divergence of opinion between the "pulpit and the pew" as the laity continues to support the death penalty in large numbers. A heat transfer model is developed to predict cooking time of meat patties given the initial temperature of meat, oven temperature, and meat properties to monitor and control a cooking process on-line. Experiments were performed to find the cause of variability in cooked weight and raw temperature effects in forming and final cooked temperature. Advanced charting techniques concluded that only common causes of variability were present in the process. Thermal conductivity experiments were performed to determine the thermal conductivity of meat (k), which was compared with the properties of meat published in literature to validate the experiment. This article argues that conventional presidential election-outcome forecasting models based on situational and structural economic and political variables can be refined by acknowledging the pivotal role of personality in contemporary presidential campaigns and incorporating candidate personality variables as publicly perceived into predictive models.

Using the 2000 U.S. presidential election as a case study, it is contended that George W. Bush’s “dispositional advantage” effectively neutralized Al Gore’s “situational advantage” with respect to electability.
