Influence Of Endocrine Activity On Larval Development In Busseola Fusca (Fuller) (Lepidoptera:Noctudine), M Njau

Tanzania Journal of Science

The present study investigated the role of juvenile and moulting hormones in development of Busseola fusca. Morphometric measurements were used to distinguish differences in endocrine activity between non-diapause and diapause development with regard to the prothoracic glands and the corpora allata. The corpora allata of non-diapause larvae were similar in size to those of diapause larvae. The critical period for the prothoracic glands to produce the required titer of ecdysone for further development was by the third day after ecdysis to the last larval instar. Sampai saat ini Bank Indonesia telah memiliki model makro ekonometrik yang cukup paripurna seperti MODBI. Model makro seperti MODBI tersebut bersifat statik dan sangat berguna bagi kepentingan proyeksi makro jangka pendek. Namun, berdasarkan beberapa alasan fundamental model ekonometrik tersebut secara teoritis tidak dapat dipakai sebagai alat penunjuk arah gerak dinamis dari berbagai variable makro jangka menengah dan panjang. Untuk itu suatu model makro yang dinamis (dynamic macro model) yang digenerate dengan data artifisial (artificial generated data) yang bersifat random telah dikembangkan dan diberi nama General Equilibrium Model of Bank Indonesia (GEMBI).

Composition And Anaerobic Digestion Of Single And Combined Organic Fractions Of Municipal Solid Waste Of Dar Es Salaam, A K Kivaisi, J Mukisa

The composition of major categories of municipal solid waste (MSW) of Dar es salaam city was determined. Food remains and vegetable matter constituted 80-90% of the categories. Organic fractions of the individual categories contained 18-20 % total solid (TS), 30-50 % (dry weight) total fibre and 1-1.3 % nitrogen. The assorted organic fractions were tested for anaerobic conversion into biogas at 55°C in batch cultures for 14 days with a mixed population of microorganisms. At a substrate concentration of 6-8 g volatile solids per litre fermenter volume (g VS l-1 FV) individual fractions were degraded by 51-75% and gave methane …

Sejak 17 Mei 1999, Bank Indonesia memasuki babak baru yang jauh berbeda dari periode sebelumnya. Babak baru tersebut ditandai dengan diterapkannya Undang-Undang (UU) No.23/1999 tentang Bank Indonesia yang mereformulasi tujuan dan tugas Bank Indonesia secara lebih jelas dan terfokus. Tujuan Bank Indonesia sesuai dengan pasal 7 UU No.23/1999 adalah mencapai dan memelihara kestabilan nilai Rupiah. Kebijakan moneter yang digariskan dalam UU tersebut secara implisit telah menempatkan kebijakan moneter Bank Indonesia dalam suatu kerangka kebijakan moneter yang dikenal dengan inflation targeting (IT) framework.

Selaras dengan pesan inti UU No.23/1999 tentang kewajiban Bank Indonesia untuk menjaga stabilitas internal dan eksternal nilai Rupiah, maka stabilisasi laju inflasi dalam jangka panjang merupakan agenda utama yang perlu diupayakan secara sungguh-sungguh pencapaiannya. Pesan implisit undang-undang agar Bank Indonesia melalui kebijakan moneternya mencapai sasaran laju inflasi yang rendah dan stabil, bertolak dari argumen mengenai pentingnya stabilisasi laju inflasi bagi perekonomian secara makro. Sebagaimana telah banyak dikemukakan oleh para akademisi dan praktisi, manfaat stabilisasi inflasi pada intinya berkisar pada biaya yang harus ditanggung oleh perekonomian jika laju inflasi berada pada level yang tinggi dan tidak stabil.

Beberapa penelitian yang telah dilakukan di Bank Indonesia menyimpulkan bahwa strategi kebijakan moneter berbasis pengendalian uang beredar (quantity targeting) telah semakin sulit diandalkan karena merenggangnya hubungan antara besaran-besaran moneter (uang beredar) dengan variabel-variabel ekonomi riil. Perenggangan hubungan itu dipicu terutama oleh inovasi instrumen-instrumen keuangan dan pergerakan modal antarnegara yang sangat cepat. Kenyataan tersebut mendorong munculnya pemikiran untuk mengembangkan strategi kebijakan moneter berbasis pengendalian suku bunga (interest rate targeting).

Krisis di Asia diwarnai dengan arus modal keluar netto (net capital outflows) dalam jumlah yang sangat besar dan dalam waktu yang relatif singkat telah mendorong perhatian internasional yang lebih besar pada destabilizing effect dari arus modal jangka pendek terhadap perekonomian. Arus modal dalam bentuk pinjaman bank-bank komersial ke negara-negara kawasan Asia pada periode krisis mengalami penurunan drastic dari arus masuk bersih (net inflows) sebesar US$ 80,1 milyar tahun 1996 menjadi arus modal keluar bersih (net outflows) sebesar US$14,5 milyar pada tahun 1997 dan net outflows sebesar US$59,6 miliar pada tahun 1998. Ramanujan-Like Congreuences Of The Distinct Partition Function, Ian Blumenfeld, Christi Carlstead, Mimi Cukier, Wesley Terway

Mathematical Sciences Technical Reports (MSTR)

In his work with the partition function, Ramanujan observed several congruences of the form p(An + B) = 0 (mod m). We adapt this form to several congruences of the distinct partition function, p2(n). We show that one can determine all ordered pairs of integers (A;B) for which p2(An + B)=0 (mod 2) and show families of congruences modulo 4. Finally, we offer a proof of a congruence modulo 5 satisfied by the distinct partition function.

The Translational Regulation Of Lipoprotein Lipase In Diabetic Rats Involves The 3′-Untranslated Region Of The Lipoprotein Lipase Mrna, Gouri Ranganathan, Chunling Li, Philip A. Kern

Adipose tissue lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity is decreased in patients with poorly controlled diabetes, and this contributes to the dyslipidemia of diabetes. To study the mechanism of this decrease in LPL, we studied adipose tissue LPL expression in male rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes. Heparin releasable and extractable LPL activity in the epididymal fat decreased by 75-80% in the diabetic group and treatment of the rats with insulin prior to sacrifice reversed this effect. Northern blot analysis indicated no corresponding change in LPL mRNA levels. However, LPL synthetic rate, measured using [35S]methionine pulse labeling, was decreased by 75% in …
