Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature

V.Y. Mudimbe's Dechirures (1971) has been widely analyzed. Some critics have emphasized the poet's hermetism or intellectualism; others, his themes; still others attempt to reveal the moral lesson that emerges from his poetry. In this article, by focussing on the meaning of the poet's opening declaration ('I would like to cry out against poems''), by weighing quotations from Jean de la Croix, Rembrandt and Mallarme in the text, and by situating this collection in the context of African literature, the author is seeking to demonstrate that Dechirures can be considered as a manifesto for a postnegritude poetry. Why do so many executives and other employees receive fixed stock options as part of their compensation packages? There is an impressive literature on compensatory options, and yet it raises more puzzles than it solves. Tax law, option theory, and agency theory all suggest that we might have expected to find quite different practices than we do observe. In particular, there is a puzzle in the popularity of conventional fixed options when indexed options would seem to be relatively attractive. Lorelei (Williams) Ransome was born in Alexandria, Virginia on June 26, 1939, one of nine children. Her father was both a civil servant and a private worker and her mother generally worked in their home. She grew up in Alexandria and attended Parker Gray School. After high school, she spent five years working in a department store while attending the ABC Business School. She then worked as a secretary in the Department of Labor for five years, until she was hired by the Senator Muskie Campaign Staff. Al From was born in South Bend, Indiana. He grew up as an only child in a Jewish family, attended Northwestern where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism, then went to Washington, D.C. where he worked for Sargent Shriver and the War on Poverty program. He traveled around the south at the height of the civil rights movement. He went to work for Senator Joe Tydings in the Senate District Committee in 1968. He transferred to Muskie’s Intergovernmental Relations Committee and stayed on his staff until 1978. He then became Jimmy Carter’s deputy advisor on inflation, then …

There is a need in west central Florida and other winter strawberry (Fragaria xananassa Duchesne) production areas for an early ripening cultivar to replace or be an alternative to 'Sweetcharlie' (Chandleretal., 1997a). 'Sweet Charlie' has benefitted the Florida strawberry industry through its relatively high production of fruit early in the season, when market prices are generally high. But the average fruit size is small, and the texture of its fruit is often soft, making shipment and shelf life of 'Sweet Charlie' problematic. To make personally meaningful connections with poetry as a genre, students in the author's seventh grade classes generated original metaphors to describe the essence of poetry.
