Many theorists claim that justice is a question-begging concept that has no inherent substantive content. They point to disagreements among justice theorists themselves about basic aspects of the justice theory, such as the nature of corrective justice and the distinction between it and distributive justice, as even further reason to dismiss the concept of justice or to fill it with their preferred theoretical content. There are 1.2 million diagnosed diabetics in Texas, 10 % of whom live in Bexar County, Texas. Diabetes is rated as the fifth leading cause of death in the same county. In addition to the diagnosed cases, it is estimated that 125,000 adults in Bexar County have undiagnosed diabetes (Foy, 1999). Diabetic education may prevent complications in some individuals, but sometimes knowledge alone is not enough. Patients often lack motivation or self-confidence in their capacity for self- management of their diabetes. A content analysis was used to examine how paranormal phenomena was portrayed in the San Antonio daily newspapers and determine if there was any trend in portrayals from 1970 to 1990. The San Antonio Light and the San Antonio Express-News were analyzed from March to May 1970 and March to May 1990. The analysis included data from the individual papers, comparing and contrasting the data from the two time periods. The data between the two papers also was compared and contrasted. The phenomena included unidentified flying objects, aliens, psychics, and ghosts. It excluded religious phenomena such as reincarnation, witchcraft, and …

The 110 kDa Rhop-3 rhoptry protein of Plasmadium falciparum is secreted into the erythrocyte membrane during invasion. It is an erythrocyte binding protein that is non-covalently associated with two other proteins, the 140 kDa Rhop-1 and the 130 kDa Rhop-2. We identified the Rhop-3 gene homologue in P. yoelii and demonstrated that the C-terminus is highly conserved. In order to identify the Rhop-3 gene homologue in P. berghei and P. chabaudi, a set of primers were designed based on the cDNA sequence of clone Y1412 of P. yoelii and used to amplify genomic DNA from P. berghei and P. chabaudi …

The promise of test automation - the automatic application of software inputs to find bugs - is tempered by the difficulty of automatically verifying behavior. Indeed, the lack of tools for behavior verification is a major factor in keeping automated testing out of the mainstream. This thesis develops a technique that aids automatic behavior verification for a particularly difficult problem: determining the correction of screen output. A methodology to capture and compare screen output is presented and a case study using Microsoft ® PowerPoint ® is described.

Recycle mills that use old corrugated cardboard (OCC) in their furnish experience difficulties in maintaining the quality of the paperboard produced. Recycle mills using the OCC collect their OCC from many parts of the world. Countries such as China and Japan use rice fibers in the production of corrugated cardboard. Other countries use straw as a fiber source. The end result is that OCC in the United States contains a portion of non-wood fibers as well as the typical wood fibers. Paperboard containing these non-wood fibers typically has lower strength properties than paperboard produced from pure wood fibers. Literature suggests …

Gear marking is a print defect in flexography. It appears as a uniformly spaced pattern of lateral alternating dark and light bands along the web length corresponding to the distance between gear teeth. A comprehensive definition characterizes gear marking as a regular pattern attributable to metal burrs, nicks, debris, or other flaws that lead to unsmooth movement somewhere in the mechanical system of the press. Early detection of high risk SCI patients is important. Regular determination of intravesical pressure, residual urine and leak point pressure can provide information to avoid upper tract deterioration. The aim of this study was to investigate changes of F-waves in patients with L5 radiculopathy before and after automated percutaneous lumbar disectomy (APLD).Methods: Eight patients (aged 26 to 39 years) with L5 radiculopathy were recruited. The L5 radiculopathy was diagnosed by radicular pain and motor/sensory deficit and was confirmed by MRI. F-latency and persistence of the deep peroneal nerve were measured before and after APLD. The purpose of this study is first to analyze the temporal-stride parameters and forces applied on the cane, and both feet in stroke patients walking with cane-assistance. Three force plates, six cam-eras, and an instrumented cane were integrated to conduct an analysis of the cane-assisted gait of 15 hemiplegic patients. Temporal-stride parameters, and peak vertical, anterior (propulsive)-posterior (braking) and lateral shear forces, and propulsive-breaking impulses, were analyzed.All patients walked with a relatively slow walking speed, the average is 16.1 cm/sec, ranging from 4.2 to 35.8 cm/s. The purpose of the study was to explore the effects of exercise training on cardiopulmonary endurance and depression status of hemodialysis patients. The purposive sample was recruited from a medical center in southern Taiwan. A total of forty hemodialysis patients were assigned into the experimental and control groups. Twenty patients in the experimental group underwent a 30-50 minutes, three times a week, stationary bicycle training during off-dialysis period for eight weeks. Twenty patients in the control group did not receive any exercise. The exercise test was administered to measure the cardiopulmonary endurance and the Beck Depression Scale was used to …
