Reconstructions of lake-water salinity at decadal resolution for the last 2,000 years are compared among three lakes in North Dakota to infer regional patterns of drought. The intersite comparisons are used to distinguish local variation in climate or hydrology from regional patterns of change. At one lake, diatom-inferred salinity and lake-water Mg/Ca inferred from ostracode shell chemistry are coherent, both in terms of direction and magnitude of change, indicating that each is a robust technique for reconstructing lake-water chemistry. The data show that the last 2,000 years have been characterized by frequent shifts between high and low salinity, suggesting shifts …

Univercity News (2000-03-06)
UniverCity News, 1998-2001
VCU Today, the University’s first official administrative organ, began as a somewhat irregular monthly publication but moved to a bi-weekly newspaper format in the 1980s. The newspaper changed its name to VCU Voice in 1988 and ten years later it appeared under the title UniverCity News. As it neared the end of its run as a physical newspaper, the publication became simply VCU News. These four publications were essentially the same periodical published under different titles by the Office of University Relations. VCU News appeared online for the first time in 2002.

Effective Interventions For Victims Of Workplace Violence As Perceived By Employee Assistance Professionals, William Anthony Curti
Effective Interventions For Victims Of Workplace Violence As Perceived By Employee Assistance Professionals, William Anthony Curti
Theses and Graduate Projects
The purpose of this exploratory study is to describe effective interventions in helping victims and witnesses of violence in the workplace. The literature review revealed the problem of workplace violence, and the potentially negative effects this violence has on the individuals who are victims or witriesses to this trauma. Companies and organizations have enlisted the support of Employee Assistance Program counselors who are trained in Critical Incident Stress Debriefings. The goal of this type of debriefing is to help prevent the long-term negative effects of critical incidents. Questionnaires were sent to two hundred twenty Employee Assistance Professionals in the upper …

Differential Activation Of The Tcpph Promoter By Aphb Determines Biotype Specificity Of Virulence Gene Expression In Vibrio Cholerae, Gabriela Kovacikova, Karen Skorupski
Differential Activation Of The Tcpph Promoter By Aphb Determines Biotype Specificity Of Virulence Gene Expression In Vibrio Cholerae, Gabriela Kovacikova, Karen Skorupski
Dartmouth Scholarship
Vibrio cholerae strains of the classical biotype express the genes encoding cholera toxin (CT) and toxin- coregulated pilus (TCP) under a variety of environmental conditions in vitro, whereas El Tor biotype strains express these genes only under specialized culture conditions. We show here that a single base-pair difference at positions 2 65 and 2 66 of the classical and El Tor tcpPH promoters, respectively, is responsible for the differential regulation of virulence gene expression in these two disease-causing biotypes. Analysis of tcpP-lacZ fusions in both V. cholerae and Escherichia coli indicated that transcriptional activation of the El Tor tcpPH promoter …
