Establishing Validity In The Social Sexual Awareness Scale For Adults With Developmental Disability, Pauline N. Stuempfle
Establishing Validity In The Social Sexual Awareness Scale For Adults With Developmental Disability, Pauline N. Stuempfle
Theses and Dissertations
The present study seeks to establish data supporting convergent and concurrent validity of the Social Sexual Awareness Scale by correlating SSAS score with current status regarding competency to make the decision to engage in high risk sexual behavior as agreed by the IDT. The premise is that capacity to consent to high risk sexual behavior can be measured in a way that would enhance the decision making process of the court without detracting from its authority.
Archival data relating to IQ, adaptive functioning level, guardianship status, absence or presence of a secondary psychiatric diagnosis and previous IDT decisions as to …

Personality Traits And Addiction Relapse Rates: Is There A Connection?, Lori Sadwin O'Leary
Personality Traits And Addiction Relapse Rates: Is There A Connection?, Lori Sadwin O'Leary
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to examine what differences, if any, there were in personality trait levels of Neuroticism and Conscientiousness between addicts/ alcoholics who relapsed and those who remained abstinent. It was hypothesized that high levels of Neuroticism combined with low levels of Conscientiousness would be associated with relapsing addicts and low levels of Neuroticism combined with high levels of Conscientiousness would be associated with abstaining addicts. Fifty-one subjects participated in this study and their personality traits were measured with the NEO-FFI, a self-reporting personality questionnaire. Relapse and abstinence were observed over a three-month period. A one-way ANOVA …

Shifts In Mid- To Late-Holocene Anion Composition In Elk Lake (Grant County, Minnesota): Comparison Of Diatom And Ostracode Inferences, Jasmine E. Saros, Sherilyn C. Fritz, Alison J. Smith
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications
The fossil diatom record from Elk Lake (Grant County, Minnesota) was used to reconstruct salinity and brine type between 2640 and 4645 14C yr BP. This lake was selected for a brine-type reconstruction because a previous study using fossil-ostracode assemblages indicated a shift in anion composition during the mid-Holocene (Smith et al., 1997). Salinity was reconstructed using a transfer function developed for the Northern Great Plains (NGP) of North America; the reconstruction revealed that salinity was higher (1.5–6.2 g l−1) between ~4000 and 4645 14C yr BP and dropped to 0.35–1.2 g l−1 after 4000 14C yr …

Performance Of Bootstrap Confidence Intervals For L-Moments And Ratios Of L-Moments., Suzanne Glass
Performance Of Bootstrap Confidence Intervals For L-Moments And Ratios Of L-Moments., Suzanne Glass
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
L-moments are defined as linear combinations of expected values of order statistics of a variable.(Hosking 1990) L-moments are estimated from samples using functions of weighted means of order statistics. The advantages of L-moments over classical moments are: able to characterize a wider range of distributions; L-moments are more robust to the presence of outliers in the data when estimated from a sample; and L-moments are less subject to bias in estimation and approximate their asymptotic normal distribution more closely.
Hosking (1990) obtained an asymptotic result specifying the sample L-moments have a multivariate normal distribution as n approaches infinity. The standard …
Vegetation And Soil Relationships Of Interdunal Depressions In The Nebraska Sandhills Prairie., Danica Marie Kochis-Belleque
Vegetation And Soil Relationships Of Interdunal Depressions In The Nebraska Sandhills Prairie., Danica Marie Kochis-Belleque
Student Work
Vegetation and soils of interdunal depressions were compared to those of adjacent north-facing slopes that represent the upland matrix of the Nebraska Sandhills Prairie. Data from canopy cover and biomass show interdunal depressions to be more variable in species composition but significantly lower in diversity than north-facing slopes (H’ = 1.294 and 1.451, respectively). Significant differences (P < 0.05) were observed for total plant cover (95% depression, 87% slope), grass cover (80% and 69%), total biomass (150 g/m2 and 120 g/m2), and grass biomass (110 g/m2 and 70 g/m2). Belowground biomass was higher in depressions, although not significantly so (8 g/m2 and 3 g/m2). The plant communities of depressions were dominated by Scribner’s dichanthelium (Dichantheliuum oligosanthes var. scribneriamum) (32% cover), sedges (Carex spp. And Cyperus schweinitzii) (27% cover), little bluestem (Andropogon scoparius) (21% cover), and white sage (Artemisia ludoviciana) (19% cover). Little bluestem (27% cover), western ragweed (Ambroisa psilostachya) (17% cover), and junegrass (Koeleria pyramidata) (13% cover) dominated slope communities. Significant (P < 0.05) differences between depressions and slopes were recorded for soil moisture (3% and 2%), soil organic matter (2% and 1%), depth of humic acid staining (120 cm and 40 cm), and 3 of 7 soil particle sizes, including silt. Most of the 19 elements tested had higher concentrations in depressions, but significant differences were recorded for iron, potassium, manganese, silicon, and zinc. Significantly higher proportions of small mineral soil particles, organic matter, and nutrients suggest that depressions may act as a regional sink for air-borne particulates that, in combination with higher soil moisture, support a substantially different plant community than the surrounding prairie matrix. This, interdunal depressions appear to contribute significantly to the landscape-level diversity of the Sandhills Prairie ecosystem.

Machine Learning And Small Robot Navigation, Christopher Ireland
Machine Learning And Small Robot Navigation, Christopher Ireland
Senior Scholar Papers
Developing successful navigation and mapping strategies is an essential part of autonomous robot research. However, hardware limitations often make for inaccurate systems. This project serves to investigate efficient alternatives to mapping an environment, by first creating a mobile robot, and then applying machine learning to the robot and controlling systems to increase the robustness of the robot system. My mapping system consists of a semi-autonomous robot drone in communication with a stationary Linux computer system. There are learning systems running on both the robot and the more powerful Linux system. The first stage of this project was devoted to designing …
