Small Business Promotion And Microlending: A Comparative Assessment Of Jamaican And Israeli Ngos, Benson Honig Apr 2000

Small Business Promotion And Microlending: A Comparative Assessment Of Jamaican And Israeli Ngos, Benson Honig

Journal of Microfinance / ESR Review

Loan programs in two different countries, Israel and Jamaica, are compared and contrasted, in order to identify common elements of project design, selection, and institutional norms. Utilizing agency theory, this article examines what types of borrowers successfully navigate the credit market and to what extent the bureaucratic processes employed by institutions influence and bias outcomes in unpredicted ways in organizations. Entrepreneurs are well recognized as coming from a wide range of backgrounds; indeed, it is the very heterogeneity of their origins that allows many to provide the newness of perspective so necessary for their activities. However, hidden or tacit institutional …

Differences In Turnover Intentions Between Exempt And Nonexempt Employees, Robert Ball Apr 2000

Differences In Turnover Intentions Between Exempt And Nonexempt Employees, Robert Ball

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Three a priori models of turnover intentions were tested to investigate differences in turnover intentions for exempt and nonexempt employees. Results of measured variable path analysis failed to differentiate exempt and nonexempt employees in their turnover intentions. Because the a priori models failed to support a distinction between exempt and nonexempt employees, an exploratory analysis was conducted for each employee group to investigate possible differences in turnover intentions. The exempt exploratory model revealed that overall satisfaction, vision and mission, total compensation, job fulfillment, leadership, and culture were significant determinants of turnover intentions. For the nonexempt exploratory model, overall satisfaction, tenure, …

Characteristics Of Empirically-Supported Treatments, William T. O'Donohue, Jeffrey Buchanan, Jane E. Fisher

Psychology Department Publications

This study presents a survey of general characteristics of empirically supported treatments (ESTs) identified by the American Psychological Association Division 12 Task Force on the Promotion and Dissemination of Psychological Procedures. Results indicate that the ESTs share the following characteristics: they involve skill building, have a specific problem focus, incorporate continuous assessment of client progress, and involve brief treatment contact, requiring 20 or fewer sessions. Traditional assessment methods, such as intelligence testing, projectives, and objective personality tests such as the MMPI-2, are rarely used in these treatments. Although it is recognized that these findings are in part an artifact of …

Organizational Demography: A Review, Abhoy K Ojha Apr 2000

Organizational Demography: A Review, Abhoy K Ojha

Working Papers

Research has established the importance of including demographic considerations in organizational analysis to provide a more comprehensive explanation of organizational phenomena. However, there are a wide variety of conceptual and empirical perspectives in the field of organizational demography. Each perspective has a different focus and conceptual underpinnings. In this paper, we develop a framework to categorize the current literature into cohesive theoretical perspectives. In addition to organizing the past and current work in the field, the framework draws attention to other possible approaches to demographic research in organizations.
