The Influence Of Scale On School Performance: A Multi-Level Extension Of The Matthew Principle, Robert Bickel, Craig Howley May 2000

The Influence Of Scale On School Performance: A Multi-Level Extension Of The Matthew Principle, Robert Bickel, Craig Howley

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

In this study, we investigate the joint influence of school and district size on school performance among schools with eighth grades (n=367) and schools with eleventh grades in Georgia (n=298). Schools are the unit of analysis in this study because schools are increasingly the unit on which states fix the responsibility to be accountable. The methodology further develops investigations along the line of evidence suggesting that the influence of size is contingent on socioeconomic status (SES). All previous studies have used a single-level regression model (i.e., schools or districts). This study confronts the issue of cross-level interaction of SES and …

Comparisons Between Add/Adhd Diagnosed And Non-Diagnosed Boys, Pre-Kindergarten Through Grade Eight, Daniel Del Vecchio

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine the validity of the Conners' Teacher Rating Scale-Revised: Short Form (CTRS-R: S). The CTRS-R: S is an instrument used for the assessment of attention-deficit disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD) and related behavioral problems in children and adolescents. The study included 225 boys in grades Pre-Kindergarten through eight. The subjects were divided into two groups. Group one consisted of 165 boys who were not diagnosed with ADD/ADHD; Group two consisted of 61 boys who had been previously diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. A second analysis regrouped the sample by grade-groups that were consistent …

A Study Of The Relationship Between Locus Of Control, Behavior And Academic Achievement In 5th Grade Students, Dawn Zuber May 2000

A Study Of The Relationship Between Locus Of Control, Behavior And Academic Achievement In 5th Grade Students, Dawn Zuber

Theses and Dissertations

This study attempted to investigate the relationship between locus of control, academic achievement and behavior in 5th grade students. It was hypothesized that locus of control would be more internalized with high academic achievement and less behavior problems. A total of 40 subjects participated. Data was collected using the Nowicki-Strickland Locus of Control Scale, the Devereux Behavior Scale-School Form and the Metropolitan Achievement Test. Using this data, a relationship was measured using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient (r). The results demonstrated significant correlations between all of the variables. The results were interpreted to mean that 5th grade students with an …

Canada’S Demographic Future: Some Reflections On Projection Assumptions, Roderic Beaujot May 2000

Canada’S Demographic Future: Some Reflections On Projection Assumptions, Roderic Beaujot

PSC Discussion Papers Series

Projections since the start of the Canada Pension Plan have been reasonably accurate with regard to population size, but they have under-projected population aging, and thus the ratio of beneficiaries to contributors. A case is made for long terms assumptions including fertility of 1.6 births per woman, life expectancy of 85, and net immigration of 0.47 per 100 population. By 2026, there will be fewer than three persons aged 20-64 per person aged 65 and over, compared to over six when the program was started. According to medium projections, the proportion 20-64 to 65+ will change from 4.9 in 2000 …
