Virtual Teams: An Investigation Of The Determinants Of Team Effectiveness And The Contribution Of Managerial Behavior Control., Gabriele Piccoli

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Information Technology is providing the backbone for development of new organizational forms. Virtual teams represent one such organizational form that has the potential to change the workplace and provide organizations with increased levels of flexibility and responsiveness. Many organizations are recognizing these potential benefits and are implementing virtual teams. A gap exists in the current Information Systems literature. No previous study has looked at the role of managerial control mechanisms in fostering virtual team effectiveness. This study contributes a model of virtual team effectiveness based on an extension of research in traditional environments. The contribution of managerial behavior control practices …

This descriptive case study examined Reading Recovery's effect on the acceleration of the change process in selected elementary schools in Arkansas. Two purposeful samplings were used to investigate, discover, understand, and gain insight. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected to develop the description. Data-driven decisions toward the building of a comprehensive early literacy school reform model for accelerating change were also examined in relation to reading …

Meaningful And Effective Performance Evaluations In A Time Of Community Policing, Meghan S. Stroshine Jan 2000

Meaningful And Effective Performance Evaluations In A Time Of Community Policing, Meghan S. Stroshine

Social and Cultural Sciences Faculty Research and Publications

It is well recognized that the success of community-policing initiatives may be dependent on a variety of organizational changes, such as decentralization, increased officer autonomy and discretion, and permanent or stable geographic assignments. What is equally important, yet often overlooked, is the importance of a revised performance evaluation system that reflects the work to be performed in a community policing atmosphere. In a community policing context, performance evaluations do far more than simply evaluate police behavior; they serve as important vehicles for increasing awareness and understanding, conveying organizational expectations, and rewarding behavior concordant with a broadened police role (Oettmeier & …

Effective Multidisciplinary Team Problem Solving : A Review Of Literature, Debra S. Meyer Jan 2000

Effective Multidisciplinary Team Problem Solving : A Review Of Literature, Debra S. Meyer

Graduate Research Papers

The historical legislation mandating multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) in schools is well known, yet relatively little attention has been directed toward either evaluating systematic processes that would lead to the desired outcome of better services to all students or educating team members in problem solving content and process. The purpose of the study was to examine the factors that influence problem solving outcomes and other aspects of service delivery in MDT settings, including the changing role of school psychologists.

Results indicated much variability and little consensus in several areas: clarity of role expectations, family involvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, continuing educational training, and …

The Federal Housing Administration In The New Millennium, Anthony Pennington-Cross, Anthony Yezer Jan 2000

The Federal Housing Administration In The New Millennium, Anthony Pennington-Cross, Anthony Yezer

Finance Faculty Research and Publications

The first challenge in attempting to predict the future of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) is to understand why it is still here. No other depression-era mortgage-market institution has survived without substantial modification. We conclude that its survival has depended on its ability to invent new purposes for itself. For example, it changed from a replacement for failed private mortgage insurance using economic soundness as an insurance criterion to an innovator in high-risk lending based on an acceptable risk criterion. FHA has developed special programs to serve the needs of specific groups. We believe this pattern of change in purposes …

Establishing The Research Foundations For Successful Client-Server Computing: What Naturalistic Studies Could Contribute, Patricia Y. Logan, Charles M. Lutz Jan 2000

Establishing The Research Foundations For Successful Client-Server Computing: What Naturalistic Studies Could Contribute, Patricia Y. Logan, Charles M. Lutz

The Qualitative Report

What is the nature of the process of implementing a new technology? How should the dynamics of implementing a new technology be studied? What research methods are best-suited to the study of complex issues of social and organizational impacts arising from the implementation of a new technology? Client-server computing represents a significant new technology that has not been a focus of research investigations. As companies pursue client-server technology as a replacement for legacy computing systems, there is a need to provide practitioners with grounded research that discover patterns of organizational and social dynamics that influence the successful outcome of a …

From Warriors To Wingtips: The Leadership Transition Of Retired Officers Into The Public Sector, Lynn M. Eldred Edd

It focused on eleven retired naval and marine officers who served twenty or more years, attained a rank of lieutenant commander or major and above, and had worked in local San Diego government at the mid-management or executive level less …

An Integrated Cost Model For Software Reuse., Senta Fowler Chmiel Jan 2000

An Integrated Cost Model For Software Reuse., Senta Fowler Chmiel

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Several cost models have been proposed and assessed in the past for predicting and analyzing the costs associated with software reuse. The integrated cost model, which is presented in this thesis, is based on the premise that there are four decisions in the software reuse lifecycle: the decision to adopt a reuse-based software paradigm; the decision to initiate a domain engineering initiative; the decision to use reusable assets in the development of a given application; and the decision to develop reusable assets. The integrated cost model further considers that all these decisions must be justified by an economic rationale, and …

City Of Tualatin Youth Development Plan, Holly Hendricks, Matt Michels, Alison Mielke, Justin Patterson, Jon Skidmore, Jason Tuck, Jason Wachs

Master of Urban and Regional Planning Workshop Projects

This project evaluated the recent construction of a public skatepark located in Tualatin Community Park. The skatepark is unique because a group of underrepresented youth initiated the idea of constructing it and helped bring it to fruition. The city has expressed a desire to see this level of energy and commitment duplicated in other youth-oriented initiatives, but needs to have a better understanding of how the skatepark project served as a positive youth development tool. In support of young people, the Tualtin City Council recently named youth issues as a "first tier" priority.
