Collaborative Research: Conflicts On Authorship, Ownership, And Accountability, Rochelle C. Dreyfuss Jan 2000

Collaborative Research: Conflicts On Authorship, Ownership, And Accountability, Rochelle C. Dreyfuss

Faculty Articles

In this Article, Professor Dreyfuss explores the field of collaborative research in the realm of intellectual property law. Traditionally, scientists, artists, and professors developed ideas alone, utilizing only their own knowledge and research to complete their works. Recently, however, due in part to an increasing need for specialization, the globalization of the marketplace, the rapid growth of the Internet, and an expansion in intellectual property law, collaborative production is replacing individual efforts. Collaborative efforts have posed an array of new and challenging legal problems. Parties sometimes find themselves without a clear sense of who has rights to royalties, who can …

The Social And Economic Status Of Eritrean Women: Advances And Reversals, Asgedet Stefanos Jan 2000

The Social And Economic Status Of Eritrean Women: Advances And Reversals, Asgedet Stefanos

Trotter Review

In assessing the post-independence status of women in Eritrea, I want to pose two questions. First, how did the leadership of the national liberation movement, the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF), embark on promoting women's emancipation, given the attitudes firmly rooted in the minds of both men and women that ran counter to the idea of an emancipated woman? Secondly, what changes were established in Eritrean women's public and personal lives during the national liberation struggle — in politics, economics, and the social realm?

This is an excerpt of the speech delivered by Asgedet Stefanos at the 20th Anniversary of …

Narrative Preaching: A Study Of Contemporary Theory And The Development And Implementation Of An Integrative Model In The Walla Walla College Church, John C. Cress Jan 2000

Narrative Preaching: A Study Of Contemporary Theory And The Development And Implementation Of An Integrative Model In The Walla Walla College Church, John C. Cress

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The Topic

The topic of this project is narrative preaching. Post-modern culture is characterized by a surfeit of information and a famine of meaning. A cacophony of voices competes for its attention and in such an environment God’s Word frequently goes unheard. Thus it is of critical importance that the gospel be heard in a "language" this culture readily understands. Because it is specifically attuned to the contemporary sensibility of human beings (i.e., it is a “language” most individuals intuitively understand), narrative and narrative forms of preaching have particular power to assist individuals in coming to saving faith in Jesus …

First Amendment Protection For Newsgathering: Applying The Actual Malice Standard To Recovery Of Damages For Intrusion, Merrit Jones Jan 2000

First Amendment Protection For Newsgathering: Applying The Actual Malice Standard To Recovery Of Damages For Intrusion, Merrit Jones

UC Law Constitutional Quarterly

The privacy tort of intrusion is an increasingly popular claim against news media defendants, in part because it lacks the constitutional protections of other privacy torts and claims based on publication or broadcast. This note argues that intrusion claims thus undermine those constitutional protections. As a solution, it proposes that a plaintiff be required to show actual malice by a news media defendant in order to recover punitive damages for intrusion.

Defining The Lawyer/Artist, Matt Mays Jan 2000

Defining The Lawyer/Artist, Matt Mays

SWITCH

This speculative argument discusses the connections between code and law. The author suggests that legal frameworks can become artworks that create a standard for social justice as well as a boundary within which an artist or coder must follow. The author traces a history of legal performance starting in the early 2000’s with the rise of the internet & corporate controversies. The article also discusses the ways the internet facilitated spread ideas, facts, and knowledge. It traces the ways the internet created a new way of consumption and concerns regarding corporate manipulation of information over the web. The article covers …

Chinese Law, Trade And The New Century, Robert C. Berring Jan 2000

Chinese Law, Trade And The New Century, Robert C. Berring

Northwestern Journal of International Law & Business

China crammed a great deal of political activity into the 20th Century. In the year 1900 the Q'ing Dynasty still ruled the remnants of an ancient empire. The Q'ing conspired with rebels in the Boxer Rebellion in the hopes of expelling all foreigners from Chinese soil and returning to splendid isolation. In the year 2000 China is a superpower balancing communist theory and a capitalist market that is about to join the World Trade Organization. The intervening years saw warlords, democrats, fascists, Marxists and all stripes of communists leading the world's largest nation. As China enters the new millennium of …

Proceedings Of The 2nd Conference Of Doctoral Education In Design (2000): Foundations For The Future, David Durling, Ken Friedman

DRS Conference Volumes

The La Clusaz conference focused on four central themes:

1 philosophies and theories of design

2 foundations and methods of design research

3 form and structure for the doctorate in design

4 the relationship between practice and research in design

Participants presented findings, debated ideas, proposed benchmarks for the future development of the doctorate in design, and entered into dialogue on how to develop programs. The conference encouraged participants to interact, using each session as a genuine opportunity to confer. One important goal of the conference was establishing significant working relationships, research alliances, and partnerships among universities.
