Top-Down, Routinized Reform In Low-Income, Rural Schools: Nsf's Appalachian Rural Systemic Initiative, Robert Bickel, Terry Tomasek, Teresa Hardman Eagle

Leadership Studies Faculty Research

Since 1991, the National Science Foundation has funded fifty-nine state, urban, and rural systemic initiatives. The purpose of the initiatives is to promote achievement in math, science, and technology among all students, and to encourage schools and communities to secure the resources needed to maintain such outcomes. The Appalachian Rural Systemic Initiative (ARSI) is a six-state consortium which focuses these efforts on low-income, rural schools. The primary means of accomplishing ARSI's aims is a one-day-one-school site visit, called a Program Improvement Review, done by an ARSI math or science expert. The centrally important Program Improvement Reviews, however, seem to be …

Measurement Of B-Quark Fragmentation Fractions In Pp̅ Collisions At √S = 1.8 Tev, T. Affolder, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Feb 2000

Measurement Of B-Quark Fragmentation Fractions In Pp̅ Collisions At √S = 1.8 Tev, T. Affolder, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We have studied the production of B hadrons in 1.8-TeV pp̅ collisions. We present measurements of the fragmentation fractions, fu, fd, fs, and fbaryon, of produced b quarks that yield B+, B0, Bs0, and Λ̅b0 hadrons. Reconstruction of five electron-charm final states yields fs/(fu+ fd)= 0.213 ± 0.068 and fbaryon/(fu+ fd)= 0.118 ± 0.042, assuming fu=fd. If all B hadrons produced in pp̅ collisions …

Composition And Distribution Of Aerosols Over The North Atlantic During The Subsonic Assessment Ozone And Nitrogen Oxide Experiment (Sonex), Jack E. Dibb, R. Talbot, Eric Scheuer Feb 2000

Composition And Distribution Of Aerosols Over The North Atlantic During The Subsonic Assessment Ozone And Nitrogen Oxide Experiment (Sonex), Jack E. Dibb, R. Talbot, Eric Scheuer

Earth Sciences

We report the mixing ratios of aerosol-associated soluble ions (focusing on SO4= and NO3−) and HNO3 over the North Atlantic during NASA's Subsonic Assessment Ozone and Nitrogen Oxide Experiment (SONEX). The SONEX campaign was designed to quantify the impacts of jet emissions in the North Atlantic Flight Corridor (NAFC) by sampling both directly within and far removed from the organized track system. Beryllium-7 activities were also measured to assess the magnitude of stratospheric influence in the SONEX study region. Mixing ratios of aerosol-associated SO4= and NO3− above 8 km during …
