Contract Law At Century's End: Some Personal Reflections, Andrew B.L. Phang
Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law
As we approach the end of the second millennium, the common law of contract-transplanted via colonialism into many lands and climes-has indeed flourished. It has certainly developed apace in the land of its origin, England, but has also evolved in distinct directions elsewhere, particularly in Australia and New Zealand.2 But this development is simply part of a continuous process and a great many interesting issues remain to be considered at the commencement of the next millennium and beyond. This is due, in part, to the very diversity that has been briefly alluded to. However, even on a more general level, …

George Elliott Howard (1849-1928), president of the American Sociological Society in 1917, was one of those American scholars who recognized the value of European training at a time when opportunities …

They were made in various methodology and backgrounds of the authors. The tafsir of al-Quran …

Working Towards A Cartographic Lexicon: The Role Of Units, Structure, Content, And Expression In Geographic Information, Michael Charles Fabbri
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
This thesis was conceived from an interdisciplinary perspective towards the advancement of cartographic research and geographic education. The primary focus is to understand the cognitive process of cartographic communication as an approach both to improvements in design and to teaching and learning of the cartographic language. Specifically, it attempts to understand more about how the map functions. It accepts that the map is a functional graphic display, whose main purpose is to represent, communicate, and store geographical information, which allows a focus on what that geographical information is conceptually. The essential goal of map use is geographic comprehension, and if …

The Colors And Shadows Of My Word(S), Lydia A. Saravia
Open Access Master's Theses
If I find my voice, I will find my identity. Voice gives identity meaning. The acquisition of language (voice) means an acquisition of subjectivity (identity). A search for an identity is a search for voice. But formation of identity is difficult when multiple layers of subjectivity are to be considered: the layer of dual culture, in this case Guatemala and the United States, the layer of an urban environment, the layer of a working-class status, the layer of being female, which are all major players in the development of voice. To make sense of, and find a voice for, a …

Gendered Communication Among Second Generation Danish Americans In The "Blair Church:" A Study In Progress, John Mark Nielsen
The Bridge
I am not nor do I pretend to be an expert on gendered communication or feminist criticism. I have, however, used Carol Gilligan's In A Different Voice and Deborah Tannen's You Just Don't Understand in classes with good results.1 While students differ in their responses, these works are accessible to many and have inspired good discussion about how gender may affect decision-making and impact the way messages are sent and received. Additionally, I have found writings by Peggy McIntosh, Carol Smith-Rosenberg, and Barbara Welter helpful in exploring and thinking about the writings of American women writers of the pre-Civil War …
