Organizational Demography: A Review, Abhoy K Ojha Apr 2000

Organizational Demography: A Review, Abhoy K Ojha

Working Papers

Research has established the importance of including demographic considerations in organizational analysis to provide a more comprehensive explanation of organizational phenomena. However, there are a wide variety of conceptual and empirical perspectives in the field of organizational demography. Each perspective has a different focus and conceptual underpinnings. In this paper, we develop a framework to categorize the current literature into cohesive theoretical perspectives. In addition to organizing the past and current work in the field, the framework draws attention to other possible approaches to demographic research in organizations.

An Approach To Branding Services, Y L R Moorthi

Working Papers

This paper provides an approach for branding a service. The approach integrates David Aaker's Brand Identity framework, with the IPs of services marketing and the economic classification of goods. The 7Ps of services are product\ price, place, promotion, physical evidence, process and people. The economic classification divides goods into search, experience and credence goods. In general products have more search properties and services have more experience and credence properties. The paper argues that the key to branding search, experience and credence goods is, giving the customer information, delight and education respectively.

Disruption Of The Borrelia Burgdorferi Gac Gene, Encoding The Naturally Synthesized Gyra C-Terminal Domain, Scott W. Knight, Betsy J. Kimmel, Christian H. Eggers, D. Scott Samuels

Biological Sciences Faculty Publications

The C-terminal domain of the A subunit of DNA gyrase, which we term Gac, is naturally synthesized in Borrelia burgdorferi as an abundant DNA-binding protein. Full-length GyrA, which includes the C-terminal domain, is also synthesized by the spirochete and functions as a subunit of DNA gyrase, We have disrupted synthesis of Gac as an independent protein and demonstrated that it is not essential for growth in a coumarin-resistant background. We detected no alterations in DNA maintenance, condensation, or topology In B. burgdorferi lacking this small DNA-binding protein.

Differential Expression Of Chemokines In A Mouse Model Of Wound Healing, Susan H. Jackman, Matthew B. Yoak, Shivaleela Keerthy, Bonnie L. Beaver

Biochemistry and Microbiology

Macrophages have a multifaceted role in wound healing. While their initial activity may be in the degradation and elimination of damaged tissue, macrophages also produce and secrete a variety of mediators that can participate in the repair process as well. To perform these functions, macrophages must be recruited to a wound site. Our purpose was to examine the temporal and spatial expression of macrophage chemoattracting cytokines (chemokines) at a surgical wound site. A surgical wound was prepared on the dorsal aspect of B6AFI/J mice. Biopsies were obtained from the wound and a comparable nonwounded area between 6 and 72 hr …

Dietary Fish Oil Sensitizes A549 Lung Xenografts To Doxorubicin Chemotherapy, W. Elaine Hardman, Mary Pat Moyer, Ivan L. Cameron Apr 2000

Dietary Fish Oil Sensitizes A549 Lung Xenografts To Doxorubicin Chemotherapy, W. Elaine Hardman, Mary Pat Moyer, Ivan L. Cameron

Biochemistry and Microbiology

A549 xenografts were allowed to grow in nude mice to about 5 mm in diameter, then diets were changed to modified AIN-76 diets containing 19% wt/wt. fish oil (FO) or 20% wt./wt. com oil (CO). Ten days later dietary ferric citrate (0.3% wt./dry wt.) was added and doxoribicin (DOX) treatment (3.6 mg/kg i.v. each of the 5 days for 18 days) commenced. Treatment with DOX halted the growth of tumors in the CO fed mice. However, in those mice, which consumed FO or FO with ferric citrate, treatment with DOX caused significant tumor regression.

An Introduction To The Drought Monitor, Mark Svoboda Apr 2000

An Introduction To The Drought Monitor, Mark Svoboda

Drought Network News (1994–2001)

The idea of better monitoring and assessing drought has been a quest of NDMC director Don Wilhite for more than two decades. He has been an advocate of better climate monitoring, particularly drought monitoring, because drought is a normal, recurring hazard in virtually all of the United States. The challenge is to recognize drought, a slow-onset or “creeping” natural disaster, before a region is in the middle of one.

The most recent surge in interest in drought arose during the 1995–96 drought in the Southwest and southern Great Plains states. At the NDMC we discussed how we could do a …
