Comparative Assessment Of Bit Geometry And Cutting Parameters., Shiv Kumar Bhuvanapalli Jan 2000

Comparative Assessment Of Bit Geometry And Cutting Parameters., Shiv Kumar Bhuvanapalli

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

The Objectives of this research are to evaluate the performance of cutting tool, having different geometric configurations, in regards to bit – rock interaction and dust generation. When the cutting process takes place, the main objective is to cut bigger blocks of land/ridge rather than small and less fine dust. It is also important to minimize the amount of airborne dust. The ratio of bit spacing to depth of cut, angle of attack and many other bit geometrical factors contribute to the amount of settled and respirable dust production. When rock is cut and two cutting bits are placed adjacently …

Seventeen teachers at a small rural elementary school were studied as they implemented Direct Instruction curricula for the first time. The teachers used the Reading Mastery, Corrective Reading and Language for Learning programs published …

This study examined White clients' preference for counselor characteristics. A paired comparison format was used to generate participants' preferences. The study also examined the relationship of clients' within group differences (i.e., level of racial consciousness, age, educational level) to their preference for counselors. The study found that when asked to indicate a preference between a counselor of similar ethnicity and one of dissimilar ethnicity, clients indicated a preference for a counselor of similar ethnicity. However, when other counselor attributes were included in the choice, a counselor of similar ethnicity was not the primary preference. The study was able to demonstrate …

Optimisation And Decision Support During The Conceptual Stage Of Building Design, Jim David Mathews Jan 2000

Optimisation And Decision Support During The Conceptual Stage Of Building Design, Jim David Mathews

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics Theses

Modern building design is complex and involves many different disciplines operating in a fragmented manner. Appropriate computer-based decision support (DS) tools are sought that can raise the level of integration of different activities at the conceptual stage, in order to help create better designs solutions. This project investigates opportunities that exist for using techniques based upon the Genetic Algorithm (GA) to support critical activities of conceptual building design (CBD). Collective independent studies have shown that the GA is a powerful optimisation and exploratory search technique with widespread application. The GA is essentially very simple yet it offers robustness and domain …

Personal Values And Work Satisfaction Of Registered Nurses Working In Hospitals, Marie M. Prothero, Elaine S. Marshall, Donna M. Fosbinder, Leland J. Hendrix

Faculty Publications

Personal values are increasingly recognized as important factors in work environments, including health care systems (Cameron & Whetten, 1995; Covey, Merrill, & Merrill, 1995; Fagermoen, 1997). The personal values of nursing students have been explored (Eddy, Elfrink, Weis, & Schank, 1994; Sivberg & Petersson, 1997) as have those of nurses, in the context of work design (Koerner, 1993 ). Factors of nurses' work satisfaction have also been studied extensively (Avallone & Gibbon, 1998; Brown, Naughton, & Nolan, 1998; Johnston,1997; Kangas, Kee, & McKee-Waddle,1999; Seymour & Buscherhof,1990). However, little is known about the personal values of nurses as they relate to …
