The Gaziantep Cloth Trade: A Study Of A Putting-Out System Of Cloth Production In Southeastern Turkey, Charlotte Jirousek

Textile Society of America: Symposium Proceedings

An Ottoman era system of cloth production and marketing identified in Gaziantep is a rare survival of traditional production patterns once central to the Ottoman Turkish economy.

This system is descended from the much older Ottoman production system that once organized textile manufacturing throughout the Ottoman Empire. Textile manufacturing had been an important part of the economy of Asia Minor since the dawn of history. It was noteworthy throughout this region in both the Roman and Byzantine eras, and during the early Muslim rule of the Selcuk Turks beginning in the eleventh century. The legendary silk road linking east and …

Use Of Gis To Evaluate Livestock-Wildlife Interactions Relative To Tuberculosis Spread On Molokai Island, Hawaii, Stephanie Bany, Jerome Freier

Michigan Bovine Tuberculosis Bibliography and Database

Historically, bovine tuberculosis has occurred and been eradicated several times on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. After the most recent depopulation of cattle, TB was again identified in an adult cow in 1997, thus continuing the investigation into why bovine tuberculosis is reoccurring on the island. The Centers for Epidemiology and Animal Health (CEAH) have implemented spatial analysis using ArcView software that, along with epidemiological investigations, attempts to identify the environmental factors responsible for maintaining this disease in natural foci. To examine the ecological aspects of tuberculosis transmission from wildlife to livestock, and to identify the foci of infection, we …

Privacy, Publication, And The First Amendment: The Dangers Of First Amendment Exceptionalism, Richard A. Epstein

Articles

The coordination of common law and constitutional norms are of pressing importance on matters of freedom of speech. In the Supreme Court and elsewhere, it is possible to discern two sharply inconsistent attitudes toward this question. One view holds that the First Amendment simply prevents any legislative backsliding from the common law rules that protect freedom of speech and of the press, much as they protect freedom of contract and freedom of action generally. On this view, the standard rule governing damages and injunctive relief apply to speech much as they do anywhere else. On the alternative view of what …
