This study investigated the effects of quantity and type of diet fed to superovulated donor heifers on molecular and metabolic indices of embryonic development. These effects included the relative abundances of mRNAs for the alpha 1 subunit of Na/K-ATPase and the antioxidant enzyme Cu/Zn-SOD, as well as pyruvate utilization in bovine morulae and blastocysts developed in vivo. Heifers were fed a daily ration of either grass silage and a citrus-beet pulp-based concentrate or grass silage and a barley-based concentrate for 116 days, both at 3 kg per day or ad libitum. In embryos derived from heifers fed the pulp-based diets, …

The objectives of this study were to present a short history of the Critical Care Research Network (CCR-Net), describe its approach to health ser- vices research and to summarize completed and current research projects. In doing this, we explored the question is this research network accom- plishing its goals? We reviewed the medical literature to identify studies on similar types of Networks and also the evidence supporting the metho- dology used by CCR-Net to conduct research using MEDLINE, HEALTHSTAR, CINAHL and the keywords network and health care or healthcare, benchmarking and health care or healthcare, and research transfer or research …
“What’ S Wrong With That Woman?” – Positioning Theory And Information-Seeking Behaviour, Pamela J. Mckenzie, Robert Gene Carey
“What’ S Wrong With That Woman?” – Positioning Theory And Information-Seeking Behaviour, Pamela J. Mckenzie, Robert Gene Carey
FIMS Presentations
Abstract We offer social positioning theory (Davies and Harre 1990) as a framework for exploring the ways in which the visibility of an individual’ s health status is linked to socially constructed subjectivities that can affect the individual’ s informationseeking behaviour. Qualitative analysis of data from two doctoral studies (collected through participant observation and 40 semi-structured interviews) illustrates the utility of social positioning theory as a framework for studying two specific health contexts: systematic lupus erythematosus, and twin pregnancy. Adopting a ‘ position’ involves the use of discursive practices which define the relations between self and others. Such practices frequently …
Adapting Violence Rehabilitation Programs For The Australian Aboriginal Offender, Peter Mals, Kevin Howells, Andrew Day, Guy Hall
Adapting Violence Rehabilitation Programs For The Australian Aboriginal Offender, Peter Mals, Kevin Howells, Andrew Day, Guy Hall
Aboriginal Policy Research Consortium International (APRCi)
In this paper the authors address the question of how treatment and rehabilitation programs for violent offenders might be modified to more appropriately meet the needs of different cultural groups and improve treatment responsivity. The focus of the paper is on the needs of Aboriginal violent offenders in an Australian context, although the themes have relevance to treatment programs internationally. Two broad sources of information are used: the published literature relating to violent offending in Aboriginal people in Australia, and a small-scale interview-based qualitative survey of service providers with particular experience in this area. The evidence suggests there may be …

Reformation Of The Ec Competition Policy On Vertical Restraints, Georg Terhorst
Reformation Of The Ec Competition Policy On Vertical Restraints, Georg Terhorst
Northwestern Journal of International Law & Business
In the present article, I present the main issues surrounding the reform process, its reasoning and the result it brought to the European Community's ("EC") competition policy on vertical restraints. Furthermore, I summarize some of the reactions by other bodies of the EC and industry sectors toward this reform process. Finally, I will discuss the responses by business toward these changes in the EC rules to vertical restraints and the way enterprises will operate in the Member States of the EC.

Psychosocial Adjustment To Breast Cancer: The Role Of Marital Support And Approach Coping, Jacqueline K. Schonholtz
Psychosocial Adjustment To Breast Cancer: The Role Of Marital Support And Approach Coping, Jacqueline K. Schonholtz
Frank Dilley Award for Outstanding Doctoral Study
This quantitative correlational study examined the role of approach coping and marital support in predicting psychosocial adjustment in 21 married women receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer. Psychosocial adjustment was assessed with the Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale, a measure of overall adjustment to illness. Approach coping was assessed with the Coping Responses Inventory, an inventory that measures coping strategies for dealing with a stressful event. Marital support was assessed with the Family Relationships Index, a measure of relationship functioning that focuses on the amount of togetherness, open communication, and conflict in the marriage. The independent variables of approach coping and …

Direct And Indirect Parametrization Of A Localized Model For The Mountain Pine Beetle — Lodgepole Pine System, Zy Biesinger, James Powell, Barbara Bentz, Jesse Logan
United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
The dynamic interaction between mountain pine beetles (MPB) and one of its hosts is reviewed briefly. The ‘local’ projection of a partial differential equation model describing this interaction is employed in model parameter estimation. Methods and assumptions for estimating non-fitted parameter values are given. Assigning values to non-fitted parameters, direct and indirect parametrization techniques are employed to estimate remaining parameter values. The indirect method is quickly and easily applied to many data sets but requires some assumptions and model simplifications. The direct method requires fewer assumptions but is computationally intensive. The results of these two techniques are compared and evaluated.

Healthy Families Maine: Final Evaluation Report, Erin E. Oldham Phd, Tammy Richards, Anne B. Keith Rn, Drph, C-Pnp, Julie Atkins Ma
Children, Youth, & Families
The first year's evaluation featured a process study documenting the implementation of the program at six pilot sites. The second year evaluation report followed the evolution of the Healthy Families Maine program, through both a process study and the introduction of an exploratory outcomes study.iv While the second year report focused on all of the children being served by the six Healthy Families programs, the present report is a more in-depth, longitudinal study of a group of 89 children and families served by their local Healthy Families program.
