Review Of Environmental Management On North America's Borders Edited By Richard Kiy And John D. Wirth, J. Gordon Nelson
Review Of Environmental Management On North America's Borders Edited By Richard Kiy And John D. Wirth, J. Gordon Nelson
Great Plains Research: A Journal of Natural and Social Sciences (through 2013)
This timely book is produced by the North American Institute, which is devoted to dealing with issues in North America through tri-national collaboration. Originating at a meeting of some of its contributors in New Mexico in 1995 and completed in a year or so, this fairly current volume is most useful in addressing environmental challenges across North America's borders since NAFTA's adoption, including water and air pollution which interact on a continental and indeed a global scale.

Effect Of Fragment Size On Non-Volant Mammals In La Cruz And Monteverde, Costa Rica, September 2000, Seema Sheth
Effect Of Fragment Size On Non-Volant Mammals In La Cruz And Monteverde, Costa Rica, September 2000, Seema Sheth
Monteverde Institute: Tropical Ecology and Conservation
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of fragment size on terrestrial, fruit-eating mammals. In this study, it was expected that there would be smaller mammals in small fragments than in large ones due to limited resources and fewer predators. In each of five fragments of different sizes and in a section of continuous forest, plantains were used to bait mammals, and each site was checked every other day for damage to bait. Based on observations of bite marks on plantains, for groups of mammals were identified: small rodents, opossums, agoutis and pacas, and coatis. Number of …

A >130,000-Year-Long Pollen Record From Pittsburg Basin, Illinois, Rebecca Teed
A >130,000-Year-Long Pollen Record From Pittsburg Basin, Illinois, Rebecca Teed
Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty Publications
Pittsburg Basin, in south-central Illinois, contains a sediment record extending from the present back to the end of the late Illinoian glaciation, when central Illinois was covered with Picea/Pinus forest. During the last interglaciation, a temperate deciduous forest more diverse than Holocene Quercus/Carya forest replaced the Illinoian late-glacial boreal forest. Prairie pollen types and the charcoal/pollen ratio, indicating fire frequency, temporarily increased. Then forest, with high Juniperus percentages, became dominant once more, as the charcoal/pollen ratio dropped. After the last interglaciation, the charcoal/pollen ratio increased again and prairie and wetland surrounded Pittsburg Basin through the entire Wisconsinan glacial age. The …
