Abstract: This research examines how peer facilitators in an experiential learning model of communication in introductory speech communication courses offered at the University College of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, Canada, are able to meet the specific learning needs of male and female students simultaneously. Also examined is the perceived role of these facilitators within the model. Data in the report are based on focus group interviews with peer facilitators and literature on experiential learning and Cape Breton cultures. Few would dispute that law and legal procedures lie at the core of American self-identity and are woven deeply into the fabric of our culture. Indeed, our nation's faith in law has frequently been the subject of criticism. Most recently, self-proclaimed "communitarian" commentators have warned that our insistence on legal solutions is encouraging us to become a society of litigants whose attachment to "rights talk" and legal battles is thwarting our ability to reach consensus on social issues or instill shared values in our communities. I will trace the metaphors of voice in the discourses of feminisms as articulated by Judith Fetterley, Kaja Silverman, Julia Kristeva, and Hélène Cixous. I will analyze the presuppositions of their vocal or sound imagery, paying special attention to the implications of the essentialism/constructivism opposition. It is not my intention to provide a comprehensive account of voice in feminisms, nor to make sweeping generalizations on the basis of a very limited corpus. ICS Fellow Lectures

Robert Marshall was one of the most important of early twentieth-century American conservationists. He was a founder of the wilderness Society, a committed progressive, and, as an employee of both the Forest Service and the Department of the Interior, a major designer of federal land policy. Using the case of Robert Marshall, Professor Terrie explores the connections between progressive politics and the emergence of a wilderness ideology in the American Environmental movement. Objective – To assess the prevalence of somatization and psychological morbidity presenting to primary health care in Oman and to examine the correlation between the indices of somatization and psychological disorders. Method – Consecutive primary care patients (n = 100) were screened with Bradford Somatic Inventory which gauges psychosomatic morbidity, and Self Reporting Questionnaire, which measures psychological distress. Result – Somatization disorder as defined by Bradford, and psychological morbidity were relatively common in primary care settings. There was significant positive correlation between indices of somatization and psychological morbidity.
