Recent measurements have demonstrated that sunlight irradiation of snow results in the release of significant amounts of gas phase NOx (NO+NO2). We report here the results of a series of experiments designed to test the hypothesis that the observed NOx production is the result of nitrate photolysis. Snow produced from deionized water with and without the addition of nitrate was exposed to natural sunlight in an outdoor flow chamber. While NOx release from snow produced without added NO−3 was minimal, the addition of 100 µM NO−3resulted in the release …

The Public Justification Approach To Statutory Interpretation, Bernard W. Bell
The Public Justification Approach To Statutory Interpretation, Bernard W. Bell
Rutgers Law School (Newark) Faculty Papers
Legislative history seems inextricably intertwined with the concept of legislative intentexamining legislative history makes sense only if one wishes to determine legislative intent. The contestants on both sides of the current battle over using legislative history may agree on little, but they seem to agree on this point. Legislative history’s devotees argue that determining legislative intent is the goal of statutory interpretation, and the legitimacy of referring to legislative history seems to follow without much argument. That is, legislative history merely serves as a tool to find illusive legislative intent, but, in itself, lacks significance. Those who attack legislative history …

Direct Measurement Of The W Boson Width In Pp̅ Collisions At √S = 1.8 Tev, T. Affolder, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration
Kenneth Bloom Publications
This Letter describes a direct measurement of the W boson total decay width, Γ W, using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The measurement uses an integrated luminosity of 90 pb-1, collected during the 1994–1995 run of the Fermilab Tevatron pp̅ collider. The width is determined by normalizing predicted signal and background distributions to 49 844 W→ eν candidates and 21 806 W→μν candidates in the transverse-mass region MT < 200 GeV and then fitting the predicted shape to the 438 electron events and 196 muon events in the high-MT region, 100<MT < 200 GeV. The result is G Γ W= 2.04 ± 0.11(stat) ± 0.09(syst) GeV.

The Effect Of China's Economic Reform Program On The Employment Structure In China's Urban Areas, Feng Xu, Scott Fausti, Dwight Adamson, H. Kim
The Effect Of China's Economic Reform Program On The Employment Structure In China's Urban Areas, Feng Xu, Scott Fausti, Dwight Adamson, H. Kim
Economics Staff Paper Series (1969 - 2017)
A review of China's economic and political reforms since 1978 is provided and then linked to structural change in China's urban labor force as a result of the reform process. Analysis of data on urban labor allocation in China from 1978-97 indicates labor is being reallocated from the public sector to the private sector at a very rapid pace. The data indicates the urban labor has doubled and employment in the private sector has increased from nearly zero to a little over 30% in a 20 year period. The data also suggest that Chinese estimates of urban employment and unemployment …

From Dubric To Taliessin: Charles Williams's Early Work On The Arthurian Cycle, Eric Rauscher
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Explores the transformation of Dubric into Taliessen, focusing on how Dubric gradually recedes in importance in Williams’s thinking about the Arthur story and is finally transformed into Taliessen.

Semi-Regular Mesh Extraction From Volumes, Z. J. Wood, M. Desbrun, P. Schroder, D. Breen
Semi-Regular Mesh Extraction From Volumes, Z. J. Wood, M. Desbrun, P. Schroder, D. Breen
Computer Science and Software Engineering
We present a novel method to extract iso-surfaces from distance volumes. It generates high quality semi-regular multiresolution meshes of arbitrary topology. Our technique proceeds in two stages. First, a very coarse mesh with guaranteed topology is extracted. Subsequently an iterative multi-scale force-based solver refines the initial mesh into a semi-regular mesh with geometrically adaptive sampling rate and good aspect ratio triangles. The coarse mesh extraction is performed using a new approach we call surface wavefront propagation. A set of discrete iso-distance ribbons are rapidly built and connected while respecting the topology of the iso-surface implied by the data. Subsequent multi-scale …
