Social Support Of Sudanese Refugees In Anoka County, Minnesota, Leslie Kay Anderson

Theses and Graduate Projects

Using a qualitative research design, this study reports findings from interviews with five Sudanese refugees regarding sources of social support available to them in Anoka County, Minnesota. The potential sources of support explored were family and relatives; Sudanese and other African friends; American friends; and American Sponsors and social service agencies. Themes of culture shock and differences between support in Sudan and support in the United States emerged. Implications for social work practice and research are discussed.

Parameter Estimates For Greasy Fleece Weight Of Rambouillet Sheep At Different Ages, J. W. Lee, D. F. Waldron, L. Dale Van Vleck

Variance components for greasy fleece weight in Rambouillet sheep were estimated. Greasy fleece weight was modeled either as repeated measurements on the same trait or as different traits at different ages. The original data were separated according to the age of the ewe at shearing into three classes; 1 yr, 2 and 3 yr, and older than 3 yr. An animal model was used to obtain estimates of genetic parameters with a REML algorithm. Total numbers of animals in pedigrees for the different age classes were 696, 729, and 573, respectively, and 822 for the repeated measures model across ages. …

On 7th July 2000, the victim was continuing his clearance along the wire. The victim started work in the new lane and removed a metal bracket and piece of the barbed-wire. He then did a further two check sweeps with his detector before starting excavation with his enxada (digging tool, [hoe]). On the 3rd scrape (moving from left to right) an unplanned explosion occurred which threw the victim directly backwards into the safe area behind.

The Impacts Of The Introduced European Green Crab, Carcinus Maenas, On Selected Bivalves And Meiofaunal Communities, Zasha A. Bassett

Dissertations and Theses

This thesis examines the potential impact of the invasive green crab, Carcinus maenas, in Yaquina Bay, Oregon. I sampled the current extent of crab colonization in the intertidal zone of Yaquina Bay using a standardized trapping regimen in selected intertidal sites in August and September 1999. I also evaluated the potential impacts of C. maenas on the commercially important bivalve, Crassotrea gigas. Carcinus' preferred size ranges of C. gigas and other species were experimentally determined. Additionally, Carcinus species preference for C. gigas was examined in relation to two common bivalves, Mytilus trossolus and Macoma nasuta. Experiments were …

In appellate adjudication, decisions are rendered by a multimember court as a collective entity, not by individual judges. Yet legal scholars have only just begun to explore the formal and informal processes by which individual votes are transformed into a collective judgement. In particular, they have paid insufficient attention to the ways in which the vote of each individual judge is influenced by the views of her colleagues on a multimember court.
