Dynamics Of Green Ash Woodlands In Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Lynn R. Irby, Jack E. Norland, Mark G. Sullivan, Jerry A. Westfall, Jr., Paula Andersen Jul 2000

Dynamics Of Green Ash Woodlands In Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Lynn R. Irby, Jack E. Norland, Mark G. Sullivan, Jerry A. Westfall, Jr., Paula Andersen

United States National Park Service: Publications

Green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica Marsh.) communities are valuable as sources of biological diversity and shelter for livestock in the Northern Great Plains. Excessive use of stands by livestock tends to convert these woodland communities to less valuable shrublands. We monitored 12 green ash stands in Theodore Roosevelt National Park (TRNP) from 1985 through 1996 to determine changes in species composition, plant density, and canopy coverage in green ash communities that were protected from livestock but exposed to foraging by native ungulates. Over the 12-year sampling period, density of choke cherry (Prunus virginiana L.) and Saskatoon service-berry (Amelanchier …

New Cd-Rom Gives Voice To Fsa Photos, Michael Harrelson Jul 2000

New Cd-Rom Gives Voice To Fsa Photos, Michael Harrelson

University of Mississippi News

UNIVERSITY, Miss. -- Karen Glynn wanted to know the story behind the photograph. Why was C. M. Allen, a white resident of Clarksdale, Miss., in an African-American juke joint that day in the 1930s, waving a $5 bill on the dance floor as couples moved all around him? The mystery image, captured more than 60 years ago by Farm Security Administration (FSA) photographer Marion Post Wolcott, is only one of the 1,230 pictures which the visual resources coordinator of The University of Mississippi's Southern Media Archive sought to understand in creating one of the most comprehensive cultural databases and curriculum …

Court Briefs

No. 00-131
K.D.M. v. Reedsport School District

On Petition for Writ of Certiorari to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit

From the Reasons for Granting the Writ

The Ninth Circuit conceded that the regulation at issue below " 'discriminates' against students in religious schools, i.e., treats them differently by denying them state services on the school grounds." KDM, 196 F.2d 1046, 1051 (9th Cir. 1999) (App. B at 11 a). This, then, is a case about admitted discrimination - discrimination against "religious ideas, religious people, [and] religious schools." Evaluation And Assessment Of Agrichemical Contaminants In The Creighton, Ne Area, Mark E. Burbach, Roy F. Spalding

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

The Lewis and Clark Natural Resources District (LCNRD) has reported elevated nitrate- nitrogen (NO3-N) concentrations in ground water near Creighton, NE. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has set a maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 10 mg/L for NO3-N in public water supplies. NO3-N in the city of Creighton municipal drinking water wells and several rural domestic and irrigation wells have exceeded the MCL. The city of Creighton has constructed a reverse-osmosis water treatment system at a cost of $1.1 million to reduce the NO3-N concentration below the MCL in its water supply. In response to this NO3-N contamination problem the …
