With the demise of the Cold War, an internationalist philosophy towards national security has gained prominence among many of the political, social and economic leaders of the United States. Internationalists believe that the United States has a new role of advancing global peace and prosperity. This internationalist perspective has led to a reformulation of the United States' national security agenda. This thesis reviews the administrations new philosophical outlook on national security by examining the core premises and structural framework contained in the administrations new foreign policy agenda. In the aftermath of the second world war to ravage Europe in a single generation, there emerged a conviction among many of the economic, political and social leaders of the most powerful nation-states of Europe and the United States that an equitable resolution to Europe's long standing national suspicions, hatreds and rivalries was crucial to prevent further warfare. For these Europeanists the means for effecting long-term peace and prosperity in Europe was the formation of an integrated European regime. Poland is located in Eastern Europe - the "other Europe" - which shares a continent, but seemingly little else, with Western Europe. Most histories of Europe, legal histories included, are actually histories of Western Europe only. The "euro-centrism" some scholars complain about is, more accurately, a "western eurocentrism." The eastern half of the continent is ignored like the embarrassing black sheep of the European family. Economic historians have described Eastern Europe as a "backward" place, where feudal and mercantilist economies persisted as Western European economies modernized and industrialized. This thesis is an examination of southeastern Louisiana archaeology focusing on Unit Two at the Sharp site (16LV13) on the Lower Amite River. The artifact analysis, and more specifically the pottery analysis, demonstrated a significant early occupation at the site. The analyzed pottery represents cultural components at the Sharp site which span from the Tchula through Coles Creek periods.

Within Unit Two there was an obvious subsistence change evident. The upper strata of the midden contained a great deal of Rangia clam shell, while the earlier cultural occupations below it did not. This change in exploitation of local food sources …

Richard Nixon, the president, has been given little historical credit for the environmental accomplishments of his administration. Indeed, in his post-presidency memoirs Nixon himself shows no interest in the environment and when he does speak to the issue, it is disparagingly.

But ironically, my thesis shows that no administration, before or since, has brought such progress to the multiple issues of environmental quality. The thesis explores the political, social, and historical factors that contributed to the "environmental revolution" of the late 60s and early 70s. When walking in the fields by his home, Henry David Thoreau would look for arrowheads to bring him closer to the life of the "red man." On a visit to a friend, Thoreau was shown a piece of pottery that had a bird's head carved in the handle. Thoreau was so moved by this example of ornamentation for the sake of beauty that he wrote in his journal, "It is affecting as a work of art by a people who have left so few traces of themselves, a step beyond the common arrowhead." Since the People's Temple massacre in Jonestown, Guyana in 1978 that resulted in at least 900 dead by either suicide or murder, cults have occupied a ominous position in the consciousness of popular culture and academic study, ranging from accusations of brainwashing by psychopathic leaders to stereotypical communes comprised of the dysfunctional dregs of society to simple dismissal by academics concerned with the serious study of religion. Cults in contemporary popular culture are a distinctly ''unpopular" phenomena, to borrow David Bromley's word. The rationale of the Workshop rests on some very simple observations. It is well known that every situation encountered by individuals and organizations demands an appropriate response. The choice of such a response from among a multitude of options is the decision-making process. Simple situations that give rise to a small number of options allow the decision maker to decide on a course of action without great effort. Salmon Fish Traps In Alaska: An Economic History Perspective, Steve Colt

Salmon return faithfully to their stream of birth and can be efficiently caught by fixed gear. But since the introduction at the turn of the century of fish traps to the emerging Alaska commercial salmon fishery, most territorial residents fought for their abolition even while admitting to their technical efficiency. The new State of Alaska immediately banned traps in 1959. I estimate the economic rents generated by the Alaska salmon traps as they were actually deployed and find that they saved roughly $4 million (1967 dollars) per year, or about 12% of the ex-vessel value of the catch.
