Stereoselective Determination Oftrihexyphenidyl In Human Serum By Lc–Esi–Ms, Vladimı́R Čápka, Yan Xu, Yong Hong Chen

Chemistry Faculty Publications

The antiparkinsonian drug trihexyphenidyl (THP) is currently manufactured and administered as a racemate. However, stereochemistry can play significant role in the drug’s pharmacokinetics, biotransformation, metabolism, interaction with cellular and tissue components and overall effect on human body. It is necessary to consider such a drug as a mixture of two compounds (drug enantiomers), with their own effect on the human body. The present paper describes a simple and sensitive LC–MS method for the stereoselective determination of THP in human serum. In this study, the sample was prepared by a solid-phase extraction (SPE) procedure. The enantiomer separation was done using native …

Physics & Astronomy: Faculty Publications

We study the coherence properties of an atom laser, which operates by extracting atoms from a gaseous Bose-Einstein condensate via a two-photon Raman process, by analysing a recent experiment (Hagley et al1999 Phys. Rev. Lett.833112). We obtain good agreement with the experimental data by solving the time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equation in three dimensions both numerically and with a Thomas-Fermi model. The coherence is strongly affected by the space-dependent phase developed by the condensate when the trapping potential is turned off.

Qualitative And Quantitative Of Land-Use Managers' Attitudes Towards Environmental Justice, David O. Padgett, Nikitah O. Imani

Black Studies Faculty Publications

On 11 February 1994, President Clinton signed Executive Order 12898 ‘‘Federal Actions to Address Environmental Justice in Minority Populations and Low-Income Populations.’’ Under the order, 17 federal agencies and offices are required to compile information about the race, national origin, and income of populations in close proximity to federal facilities that may have a significant effect upon ecosystem and human health. The goal is to protect historically disenfranchised groups from being disproportionately impacted by negative externalities associated with federal actions.

This study examines the outcome of efforts to educate federal land-use managers about their roles in implementing the Executive Order …

Reaction of dichlorobis(benzildihydrazone)Ni(II) with biacetylmonoxime in 1:4 molar proportion generates diamagnetic Ni2L2 where LH2 (H = dissociable oximato proton) is HO-N=C(CH3)-C(CH3)=N-N=C(C6H5)-C(C6H5)=N-N=C(CH3)-C(CH3)=N-OH. Our molecular mechanics calculations show that Ni2L2 is an unprecedented double stranded homotopic helicate with the metal ion having a square-planar N4 coordination.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming And Writing: A New Era Of Communication-Part Ii, K.K. Duvivier Nov 1999

Neuro-Linguistic Programming And Writing: A New Era Of Communication-Part Ii, K.K. Duvivier

Sturm College of Law: Faculty Scholarship

Neuro-linguistic programming describes a method of understanding how people subjectively process information through different preferred modes or representational systems.' Generally, neuro-linguistic programming classifies perceptions into three broad categories: (1) visual, (2) auditory, and (3) kinesthetic. The September Scrivener column addressed two precepts of neuro-linguistic programming in the context of legal writing. This article addresses two more.

We present optical and near-infrared photometry and spectroscopy of the Type Ia SN 1998bu in the Leo I Group galaxy M96 (NGC 3368). The data set consists of 356 photometric measurements and 29 spectra of SN 1998bu between UT 1998 May 11 and July 15. The well-sampled light curve indicates the supernova reached maximum light in B on UT 1998 May 19.3 (JD 2450952.8^0.8) with B\12.22^0.03 and V \11.88^0.02. Application of a revised version of the Multicolor Light Curve Shape (MLCS) method yields an extinction toward the supernova of AV\0.94^0.15 mag, and indicates the supernova was of average luminosity compared …

Codebook: The Lsay 1995 Year 9 Sample Wave 4 (1998) Technical Paper No. 18, Nicole Fleming

LSAY Technical Reports

In 1995, a nationally representative sample of approximately 13,000 Year 9 students was selected to form the first cohort of the new Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth program. The sample was constructed by randomly selecting two Year 9 classes from a national sample of 300 schools designed to represent state and sector. Reading and numeracy tests were administered to students in their schools to provide information on early school achievement for use in later analyses of educational and labour market participation. Students also completed a background questionnaire about their educational and vocational plans and attitudes to school. In 1996 these …

Abstract

Background: The potential economic effects of the allocation of cadaveric kidneys on the basis of tissue-matching criteria are controversial. We analyzed the economic costs associated with the transplantation of cadaveric kidneys with various numbers of HLA mismatches and examined the potential economic benefits of a local, as compared with a national, system designed to minimize HLA mismatches between donor and recipient in first cadaveric renal transplantations. Methods: All data were supplied by the U.S. Renal Data System. Data on all payments made by Medicare from 1991 through 1997 for the care of recipients of a first cadaveric renal transplant …
