Detailed Dynamics Of Electron Beams Self-Trapped And Accelerated In A Self-Modulated Laser Wakefield, Shouyuan Chen, M. Krishnan, Anatoly Maksimchuk, R. Wagner, Donald P. Umstadter
Donald Umstadter Publications
The electron beam generated in a self-modulated laser-wakefield accelerator is characterized in detail. A transverse normalized emittance of 0.06 π mm mrad, the lowest ever for an electron injector, was measured for 2 MeV electrons. The electron beam was observed to have a multicomponent beam profile and energy distribution. The latter also undergoes discrete transitions as the laser power or plasma density is varied. In addition, dark spots that form regular modes were observed in the electron beam profile. These features are explained by analysis and test particle simulations of electron dynamics during acceleration in a three-dimensional plasma wakefield.

Documentary Editing: Journal of the Association for Documentary Editing (1979–2011)
An important primary source for Cherokeer culture, the Brainerd Journal: A Mission to the Cherokees, 1817-1823, is composed of notes written almost daily by two New England missionaries, Cyrus Kingsbury and Ard Hoyt. Their contribution to Cherokee history is valuable because, other than government accounts that parallel this same era, little literature survives about these crucial years preceding forced removal in 1838-39.

Documentary Editing: Journal of the Association for Documentary Editing (1979–2011)
It is common for documentary editors to defend the writings with which they are dealing as important in some historical or social sense. If the author of the work is famous, or the document very old, such a defense is easy. For less well known or more recent individuals, the editor will present a case for publication: the style of the writing is remarkable, or the documents bear witness to significant events, or they have value because the writer belonged to a particular, perhaps marginalized, section of society. Nicholas Thomas and Richard Eves, the editors of the letters of Vernon …

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts
Prompted by Rosenblatt's (1978) framework of the reader's transactional relationship to the text, this qualitative study examines four fifth-grade students' stances and their responses to a narrative text in three classroom activities, a peer-led discussion group, a story map activity, and written responses. This study primarily investigates issues regarding the accessibility of shifts in stance for the students. Additionally, it calls into question Rosenblatt's construct of the aesthetic-efferent continuum.

The Relationship Between Multicultural Counseling Competencies And Attitudes Toward African Americans Among White Female Graduate Students, Dianne T. Robinson
The Relationship Between Multicultural Counseling Competencies And Attitudes Toward African Americans Among White Female Graduate Students, Dianne T. Robinson
Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between multicultural counseling competencies and attitudes toward African Americans among White female graduate students in counseling psychology. Participants were 67 White female students enrolled in either the master’s or doctoral level counseling psychology programs in a large Midwestern university. Subjects were administered four instruments. Participants’ self-perceived competencies in multicultural counseling were measured by the Multicultural Counseling Inventory (MCI, Sodowsky, Taffe, Gutkin, & Wise, 1994) and racial attitudes were measured by the Attitudes Toward Blacks Scale (ATB, Brigham, 1993). Demographic information as well as subjects’ level of participation in several activities …

Commercial Slogans: The First Amendment Should Shield Their Use In Campaign Speech, Raena L. Smith
Commercial Slogans: The First Amendment Should Shield Their Use In Campaign Speech, Raena L. Smith
William & Mary Bill of Rights Journal
Commercial slogans and trademarks are increasingly finding their way into every aspect of the American vernacular, including speech by political officials and candidates. A previous published Note in the Journal of Law and Politics has argued that such speech should be restricted as it infringes upon the copyright or trademark holder's rights established both under federal and state law. This Note takes the opposing view, arguing that, even if campaign speech falls under the purview of federal or state statutes, the First Amendment prevents the application of laws to restrict campaign speech.
