"No Matter Where You Go, There You Are" But How Do We Find You? Location Determination Technologies For Cellular Enhanced 9-1-1 Service., Wendy Sue Geary

Recently there has been an explosive growth in the use of cellular telephones. Many people purchase "cell phones" specifically for the safety factor, expecting the same type of Enhanced 911 service they receive from landline phones. However, the only 911 service currently available for cellular callers in most areas is Basic 911, which means that emergency response time may be less than optimal. A recent Federal Communications Commission regulation promotes the provision of Enhanced 911 service for wireless customers. A key component of this Enhanced service is "Automatic Location Information" ("ALI"), a computerized report of caller location that allows calls …

Since the beginning of the nation, white Americans have suffered from a deep inner uncertainty as to who they really are. One of the ways that has been used to simplify the answer has been to seize upon the presence of black Americans and use them as a marker, a symbol of limits, a metaphor for the "outsider." Many whites could look at the social position of blacks and feel that color formed an easy and reliable gauge for determining to what extent one was or was not American. "This dissertation presents the results of the research investigation on the machine tool accuracy characterization, error modeling and error compensation using telescopic ballbar and laser interferometer. Increasing demand for both higher machine tool accuracy and machining tolerances has resulted in a great need to measure and characterize the accuracy of NC machine tools and minimize machine tool induced errors on machined components before manufacturing parts, instead of inferring it from parts already machined. Effect Of Simultaneous Zinc And Vitamin A Supplementation On The Biochemical Indices Of Vitamin A Nutriture, Morbidity, And Growth In Bangladeshi Children: A Randomized, Double Blind, Placebo Controlled Trial, Mohammad Mujibur Rahman

This study evaluated whether combined zinc and vitamin A supplementation would improve the biochemical indexes of vitamin A nutriture, reduce morbidity, and enhance growth in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled intervention trial. Eight hundred children aged 12–35 months were randomly assigned to one of the four intervention groups: (1) zinc, (2) vitamin A, (3) zinc and vitamin A (zinc plus vitamin A), or (4) placebo. The zinc group received 20 mg of elemental zinc as syrup once daily for 14 days. The vitamin A group received a 200,000 IU (60 mg) vitamin A capsule on Day 14. The placebo group received …

Despite efforts to reduce the incidence of adolescent pregnancy and childbearing in the U.S., it remains a pressing social concern and public health problem. Indeed, births to women under 20 continue to constitute one of every seven births in this country and remain higher than teen birth rates in comparable industrialized nations. The literature clearly indicates that factors such as (a) early initiation of sexual activity, (b) lack of appropriate reproductive knowledge, (c) limited educational aspirations, (d) low self-esteem, and (e) family poverty increase the likelihood that an adolescent will begin early childbearing and that she will subsequently have at …

Evaluation Of The Impact Of Cotesia Flavipes Cameron (Hymenoptera :Braconidae) And Indeginous Parasitoids On Stemborer Populations In Southwestern Kenya., Kennedy Okoth Ogedah

Data obtained from regular field samples throughout the life cycle of Chilo partellus in three experimental sites; Ungoye, Mbita point and Kuja river, were used to construct life tables. Key factor analysis was conducted to determine the key mortality factors. Results showed little variation in the total inter-generation mortality expressed as 100rx at all the three developmental stages of C.partellus. The mean values obtained ranged from 89.35%-98.1 %,86.1 %-99.8% and 91.7%-96.03% for Kuja river, Mbita point and Ungoye respectively. The most common cause of mortality was classified as disappearance whereas parasitism contributed minimally to the C.partellus mortality at all the …

This article argues that criminal trial juries perform an important but inadequately appreciated social function. I suggest that jury trials serve as a means through which we as a community take responsibility for - own up to - inherently problematic judgments regarding the blameworthiness or culpability of our fellow citizens. This is distinct from saying that jury trials are a method of making judgments about culpability. They are that; but they are also a means through which we confront our own agency in those judgments. The jury is an institution through which we as individuals take a turn acknowledging and …

Although its full impact cannot be precisely measured, one need only speak to European physicians and clinical investigators to grasp the full extent of the change. One or another form of historical fidelity has long been in the repetoire of constitutional interpretation, and during the last two decades conservative jurists have searched for the "original intent" of various clauses. Increasingly, however, it is liberal law professors who are turning to history to make sense of American constitutionalism. What they find there is not a document listing eternal rights or duties but rather a multidimensional structure of government, captured as much in practice as on paper, that has metamorphosed over time. It seems we have, in that familiar phrase, a living Constitution. But interest is shifting from …
