Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications

The purpose of this study was to determine the attitudes of Oregon Agricultural Science and Technology (AST) teachers toward integrating science into their agricultural education programs. Results of the study indicated that almost one fourth of Oregon 's AST teachers have a teaching credential with a science endorsement, while almost half the teachers indicated students receive science credit for agriculture classes in their high school. Teachers felt prepared to teach biological and physical science concepts and that integrating science into agriculture classes has increased their ability to teach students to solve problems. For religious couples, the spiritual domain stands alongside the biological, psychological, and systemic domains as an influence upon interaction and mechanism for change. This study is a quantitative expansion of Butler, Gardner, and Bird's (1998) qualitative study, of the change dynamics of prayer. This study attempted to improve the generalizability of the Butler et al. (1998) study through its use of a larger, and religiously and geographically more diverse sample. Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The electrochemical behaviour of linear alklybenzene sulfonate (LAS) on Pt electrodes was investigated in 0.05M Na_2SO_4 and in 0.1M NaCl at pH=8 by the potentiokinetic method and by electrolysis. The anodic and cathodic semilogarithmic current-potential curves were obtained between -1.6V - +1.6V. The experimental discharge potentials were determined by means of current-potential-curves obtained by electrolysis between 0-3V. The percentages of surface active material remaining in the solution after specified periods (0-6hrs) were determined for different initial concentrations of LAS (30, 150, 300 ppm) by using a potentiostat at +1.6V and by applying a potential of 20V via a direct current …

31P NMR experiments were performed on Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis at various temperatures under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The total soluble intracellular phosphate concentration was estimated to be 2 x 10^-17 mole/cell, while intracellular orthophosphate concentration was around 1 x 10^-17 mole/cell. Addition of glucose resulted in a general decrease in intracellular pH and was accompanied by the formation of sugar monophosphates. The concentrations of soluble intracellular phosphates, both inorganic and organic phosphates, were estimated by integration versus methylene diphosphonic acid (MDPA) standard. Although intracellular and extracellular orthophosphate could be observed, these appear to exchange rapidly on the NMR …

Few studies have focused on effective professional development programs that enhance faith-learning implementation in the Christian higher education classroom, and little has been documented about what integration of faith and learning actually looks or sounds like in Christian higher education classrooms.

This paper describes the role of culture in perpetuating violence against women. It does this by contextualizing violence against women in South Africa within the grand project of transformation taking place there, and highlighting the possibilities of fundamental restructuring, with respect to rights and equality for women, when the feminist project intersects with the non-racial project. The paper, therefore, visits a familiar question, namely, the obstacles to transformation when the eradication of racism takes precedence over the elimination of sexism, as it historically has in South Africa. When Justice Fails: Indemnification For Unjust Conviction, Adele Bernhard

The first section of this article reviews the evidence, both historical and contemporary, documenting the existence and frequency of wrongful convictions. The next dissects an actual case to illustrate how an innocent person can be convicted and why, once the error has been corrected and the conviction is vacated, that person generally has no legal action for damages in the absence of indemnification legislation. The third section argues that society has a moral obligation to assist the wrongfully convicted; that indemnification legislation is a better approach than reliance on ''moral obligation" bills; and that enacting legislation is possible - just …
