High Plains disease has the potential to cause significant yield loss in susceptible corn (Zea mays L.) and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes, especially in the central and western USA. The primary causal agent, High Plains virus (HPV), is vectored by wheat curl mite (WCM; Aceria tossicheila Keifer), which is also the vector of wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV). In general, the two diseases occur together as a mixed infection in the field. Modeling And Simulating Chemical Weapon Dispersal Patterns In Dirsig, Peter Arnold

Theses

Fieldable thermal infrared hyperspectral imaging spectrometers have made it possible to design and construct new instruments for better detection of battlefield hazards such as chemical weapon clouds. The availability of spectroscopic measurements of these clouds can be used not only for the detection and identification of specific chemical agents but also to potentially quantify the lethality of the cloud. The simulation of chemical weapon dispersal patterns in a synthetic imaging environment offers significant benefits to sensor designers. Such an environment allows designers to easily develop trade spaces to test detection and quantification algorithms without the need for expensive and dangerous …

The population approach to pharmacokinetic involves the estimation of mean pharmacokinetic parameters and their variability within a study population. Advantages of this approach include the ability to i) utilize sparse data, ii) analyze data from large, heterogeneous populations to obtain realistic and relevant estimates of variability and iii) evaluate the influence of patient characteristics on pharmacokinetic estimation.

Sparse data from a phase ill clinical trial of the protease inhibitor, nelfinavir, were used to obtain estimates of the pharmacokinetic parameters and their variability. Neonatal hyperinsulinism (HI) is a genetic disorder of pancreatic b-cells characterized by failure to suppress insulin secretion in the presence of hypoglycemia, resulting in brain damage or death if not adequately treated. Germline mutations in four genes have been associated with HI. Some patients have focal regions of b-cell proliferation (focal HI). Seventy HI probands in whom at least one S U R - 1 mutation was identified were studied. Clinical data from patients with two S U R - 1 mutant alleles were compared with those from patients with single paternally inherited mutations. Thirtyseven probands were homozygous or compound …

This is one of seven articles from a symposium applying to law school the Principles of Good Teaching Practices that were developed for undergraduate educators. The article presents a good overview of the general issues that impact diverse students such as the institutional climate, admission and selection criteria, academic policies, student support program, curriculum, and law school pedagogy. It provides some concrete suggestions on how law schools can enhance learning. It is a good primer for ASP professionals because it points out the various factors that can hinder students' learning or academic performance.

This article aims at an examination of the colonial career of the modern construction of race and its traces in post-coloniality. It locates race in regimes of legality and illegality attendant to British colonial rule over India to underscore the defining role of colonialism in modern constructions of race. The first part recounts the modern grammar of racial difference rooted in the colonial encounter between modern Europe and its colonies. The second part identifies three specific sites of deployment of colonial racial stereotypes in colonial India, namely, "martial races," "criminal tribes," and indentured labor.
