This research hypothesized that students who received help in a preschool disabilities program would be less likely to remain classified as eligible for special education services. The study looked at eleven children who had previously attended a preschool disabilities program. It was found that seven of the eleven children were still classified in special education. The functioning of the students was examined based on their scores on the BASC(Behavior Assessment Scale for Children) Teacher Rating scale. It was found that the majority of students scored high in the area of learning problems and had low scores in study skills. These …

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the implementation of a computerized food service system would improve the present financial and management conditions of the district's food service department, by eliminating costly mistakes that repeatedly requires the district to repay monies to the government.
During the initial stage of the project, food service directors from various school districts in New Jersey were instructed to complete a survey to determine the effectiveness of using a computerized system. Data gathered from these districts indicated that the use of computers in school food service departments can greatly enhance the management and …

An Evaluation Of Gastrointestinal Parasites In The Mixed Breed/Pure Breed Pound Dog Population Of East Baton Rouge Parish, Stalanda L. Bradford
Electronic Dissertations and Theses
ABSTRACT An evaluation of gastrointestinal parasites was performed on mixed breed and pure breed pound dogs of East Baton Rouge Parish. Fecal samples were analyzed by the Modified Sheather's Sugar Floatation Technique. Of the 54 canine specimens, 55.6% were female and 44.4% were males. Overall, 19 of the 54 (35.19%) canines were infected. The male canines had the higher infectious condition of the two genders, and the crossbred canines had the higher infectious condition of the two breeds. Also, hookworms were the most prevalent gastrointestinal parasites found within this population.

Contrasting Views Of Physicians And Nurses About An Inpatient Computer-Based Provider Order-Entry System, Todd W. Gress, Michael Weiner, David R. Thiemann, Mollie Jenckes, Stephanie L. Reel, Steven F. Mandell, Eric B. Bass
Internal Medicine
Objective: Many hospitals are investing in computer-based provider order-entry (POE) systems, and providers’ evaluations have proved important for the success of the systems. The authors assessed how physicians and nurses viewed the effects of one modified commercial POE system on time spent patients, resource utilization, errors with orders, and overall quality of care.
Design: Survey.
Measurements: Opinions of 271 POE users on medicine wards of an urban teaching hospital: 96 medical house officers, 49 attending physicians, 19 clinical fellows with heavy inpatient loads, and 107 nurses.
Results: Responses were received from 85 percent of the sample. Most physicians and nurses …
Isolation, Cloning, And Identification Of Syringomycin E Action Genes Of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, Stephen D. Stock
Isolation, Cloning, And Identification Of Syringomycin E Action Genes Of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, Stephen D. Stock
Biology
Members of the syringomycin family of antifungal cyclic lipodepsipeptides are produced by Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae strains as secondary metabolites. These metabolites are potent antifungal agents effective against a broad range of fungi. The antifungal mechanism of action of these compounds has been investigated using syringomycin E and Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model fungal system. Mutants resistant to the growth inhibitory effects of syringomycin E were isolated after mutagenesis with nitrosoguanidine. These mutants were screened for the production of ergosterol and by complementation with syr2 mutants to eliminate mutants belonging to known syringomycin E-resistant complementation groups. From a total of …

Analysis Of Fats And Fat-Soluble Components In Foods Using Supercritical Fluid Extraction And Chromatographic Techniques, Sneha Patel
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this study was to develop experimental procedures for the extraction of fats from common foods using SFE and to determine by chromatographic techniques the fat-soluble components that are extracted with the fats. In this study various food samples were examined including french fries from Wendy's, McDonald's and Burger King, as well as potato chips, peanut butter and donuts. Soxtec extraction was used as the standard method for comparison of results (percentage of fat) obtained from SFE. Gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry were used for the determination of fat-soluble components (fatty acids), after extraction of fat from …
