Bullying In Schools : Students' Perspectives, Amy L. Schiltz

The purpose of this study was to investigate where and how often in the school bullying occurred, whether bullying consisted of physical and/or verbal characteristics, and whether incidents of bullying would decrease following an intervention consisting of 8 classroom guidance lessons. These lessons were taught to 35 sixth grade students over a period of 16 weeks. Overall, bullying incidents decreased for both males and females, most bullying incidents took place on the playground, and students reported school officials did a good job in preventing bullying and creating a safe environment for learning.

The purpose of this project was to design and develop a technologically based model program including reading writing and communication skills for rural minority students in the Lower Yakima Valley in the State of Washington. To accomplish this purpose, a review of current literature and research was conducted. Additionally, information and materials developed in conjunction with the Bridges - A Web Project for Kids, at Central Washington University, was studied, analyzed and incorporated into the project.

We never exactly know when history is going to catch up with us, when we'll be in the midst of a crucial moment to which posterity will refer as key, as significant, as a lynchpin on which other moments, other decisions, other understandings were founded. The impeachment hearings recently conducted in the House of Representatives dragged us all, unwilling and amazed, into a dark hour of American politics, one in which partisan fury and ideological hatred are translated into strategies of power that disregard and reverse electoral politics. Informing, Claiming, Contracting: Enforcement In The Managed Care Era, Louise G. Trubek
Annals of Health Law and Life Sciences
Professor Trubek describes the role of the states in patient and consumer protection in the managed care era. In particular, this article focuses on the managed care patient protection mechanisms used in Wisconsin: informing consumers, encouraging dispute resolution and influencing contracts. The discussion includes an analysis of the effects of these mechanisms on the actors in the health care regulatory area and concludes with an assessment of the actors' adaptations.

The Coming Millennium: Enduring Issues Confronting Catholic Health Care, Lawrence E. Singer, Elizabeth Johnson Lantz
Annals of Health Law and Life Sciences
Professor Singer and Ms. Johnson Lantz provide a cogent overview of Catholic health care in the United States and address the key issues affecting Catholic health care in the coming years. In particular, (1) clarity in canonical and ethical interpretation; (2) industry consolidation; and (3) "next generation" sponsorship and the impact of these issues are discussed in detaiL The authors conclude that successful Catholic health care organizations must maintain strong mission and business fundamentals in an increasingly competitive reimbursement and regulatory environment.
