Bacterial Diseases (Field Manual Of Wildlife Diseases), Milton Friend Dec 1999

Bacterial Diseases (Field Manual Of Wildlife Diseases), Milton Friend

Zoonotics and Wildlife Disease: Publications

Diseases caused by bacteria are a more common cause of mortality in wild birds than are those caused by viruses. In addition to infection, some bacteria cause disease as a result of potent toxins that they produce. Bacteria of the genus Clostridium are responsible for more wild bird deaths than are other disease agents. Clostridium botulinum, which causes avian botulism, is primarily a form of food poisoning and it is included within the section on biotoxins (see Chapter 38). Other Clostridium sp. that colonize intestinal tissues produce toxins that cause severe hemorrhaging of the intestine, thus leading to tissue …

Viral Diseases (Field Manual Of Wildlife Diseases), Douglas E. Docherty

Zoonotics and Wildlife Disease: Publications

Historically, viral diseases have not been recognized as major causes of illness and death in North American wild birds. Until relatively recently, this may have been due to inadequate technology to culture and identify these organisms. Unlike bacteria, viruses are too small to be seen under the light microscope and they cannot be grown on artificial media. Nevertheless, studies of infectious diseases caused by viruses have often predated discovery of the causative agents by many years as evidenced by smallpox immunizations being used centuries before that virus was identified. The isolations of a tobacco mosaic virus in 1892 and foot …

Commercial Slogans: The First Amendment Should Shield Their Use In Campaign Speech, Raena L. Smith Dec 1999

Commercial Slogans: The First Amendment Should Shield Their Use In Campaign Speech, Raena L. Smith

William & Mary Bill of Rights Journal

Commercial slogans and trademarks are increasingly finding their way into every aspect of the American vernacular, including speech by political officials and candidates. A previous published Note in the Journal of Law and Politics has argued that such speech should be restricted as it infringes upon the copyright or trademark holder's rights established both under federal and state law. This Note takes the opposing view, arguing that, even if campaign speech falls under the purview of federal or state statutes, the First Amendment prevents the application of laws to restrict campaign speech.

IIMB Management Review

Life will never be the same in the new millennium. Even more so in the case of advertising and public relations. All the rules of marketing and distribution of goods and services are being rewritten, what with the advent of sophisticated information and communication technologies on the one hand, and on the other the insatiable demands of customers and the everlasting quest of vendors to achieve cost economies in reaching their goods and services to the users. A Symbol For Transcendence : The Human Figure In The Visual Arts As A Symbol Of Psychological Wholeness As Related To The Archetype Of Divine Androgyny And The Reconciliation Of The Anima-Animus., Mason Cowell

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

From a Jungian perspective, this thesis investigates the ideal of androgynous transcendence by identifying the Jungian anima-animus archetype within three specific artworks produced by three differing traditions. As a result, this thesis contributes to the discipline of art history by providing a nontraditional approach to the interpretation of visual art. Although 'New Art History' is receptive to a Jungian approach in the analysis of visual art, this relatively recent and major new direction within art history does not readily embrace a Jungian understanding of the visual arts. A Jungian perspective towards the interpretation of visual art presents fascinating insights concerning …
