Spectral-Based Color Separation Algorithm Development For Multiple-Ink Color Reproduction, Di-Yuan Tzeng Sep 1999

Spectral-Based Color Separation Algorithm Development For Multiple-Ink Color Reproduction, Di-Yuan Tzeng

Theses

Conventional four-color printing systems are limited by an insufficient number of degrees of freedom for tuning the visible region of the spectrum; as a consequence, they are often limited to metameric color reproductions. That is, color matches defined for a single observer and illuminant (usually CIE illuminant D50 and the 1931 standard observer) are often unstable when viewed under other illuminants or by other observers. For critical color-matching applications, such as catalog sales and artwork reproductions, the results are usually disappointing due to typical uncontrolled lighting and viewing. Furthermore, the existing multiple-ink printing systems, which all focus on expanding color …

Patient Preference For The Management Of Mildly Abnormal Papanicolau Smears, Marta Meana, Donna E. Stewart, Gordon M. Lickrish, Joan Murphy, Barry Rosen Sep 1999

Patient Preference For The Management Of Mildly Abnormal Papanicolau Smears, Marta Meana, Donna E. Stewart, Gordon M. Lickrish, Joan Murphy, Barry Rosen

Psychology Faculty Research

The article provides information on a study that investigated management preference and desire for decision-making involvement in women who have received a first mildly abnormal Papanicolaou smear. The majority of women in this highly educated sample preferred active management of their mildly abnormal Pap smears, although a substantial minority either opted for the surveillance strategy or reported no strong preference. Furthermore, management preference in this sample was not related to knowledge but rather to level of state anxiety. This indicates that these decisions may be guided more by emotions than by facts. Research has shown repeatedly that abnormal Pap smears …

Georgia State University Law Review

The Act provides that certain electronic media should be acceptable methods of processing procedural business documents. These electronic media include any means of processing communication that do not directly involve the physical transfer of paper documents from one entity to another. The Act enables the electronic filing of shareholder proxies and other documents with the Secretary of State. The Act encompasses business corporations, nonprofit corporations, limited partnerships, and limited liability corporations. In addition, the Act allows a parent corporation to merge into a subsidiary and updates several definitions, including what constitutes a beneficial owner and a foreign corporation.

Modeling Of Solid Phase Detonations, C. Richter, Hendrik J. Viljoen, N. F. J. Van Rensburg

Papers in Reaction Kinetics

In contrast to conventional explosives which constitute rapid decomposition of the molecular structure acconlpanied by the release of large volumes of gaseous products, heterogeneous mixtures in the SHS realm react by progression of a thermal wave at velocities far below the speed of sound in such mixtures. Interestingly, ultrafast solid phase reactions can be initiated under the right conditions. A shock wave compresses the solid mixture to densities well beyond the theoretical mean ambient density (TMD) and compression becomes the major form of preheating. In addition, elastic potential energy is pumped into the lattice structure to induce severe distortion and …

Valuing The New Urbanism: The Case Of Kentlands, Charles C. Tu, Mark Eppli Sep 1999

Valuing The New Urbanism: The Case Of Kentlands, Charles C. Tu, Mark Eppli

Finance Faculty Research and Publications

This study assesses the impact of new urbanism on single-family home prices. Specifically, we use Duany and Plater-Zyberk's traditional neighborhood development (TND) of Kentlands and surrounding conventional subdivisions to estimate the premium, if any, that single-family homeowners are willing to pay to reside in a community with new urbanist features. Using data on 2,061 single-family home transactions and several hedonic price models, the empirical evidence reveals that consumers are willing to pay a premium to locate in Kentlands.

Thesis, Dissertations, Student Creative Activity, and Scholarship

This chapter presents conclusions drawn from the data analysis, implications for future research, and recommendations for action based on the results of the study.

The primary purpose of this study was to describe the characteristics of environmental restoration service-learning projects in selected California watersheds that produced gains for at-risk high school students who were I I enrolled in the programs. A second purpose was to describe the characteristics of service-learning programs that at-risk students and their teachers perceived to be most helpful in making gains in school attendance, sense of connectedness to I I community, sense of social responsibility, sense …

Micromagnetics Simulation Of Nanoshaped Iron Elements: Comparison With Experiment, Scott Whittenburg Sep 1999

Micromagnetics Simulation Of Nanoshaped Iron Elements: Comparison With Experiment, Scott Whittenburg

Chemistry Faculty Publications

A micromagnetics simulation has been conducted on nanostructured magnetic elements of iron in order to investigate the effect of the shape of the element on magnetic properties, such as domain formation and hysteresis loops. These results are compared with recent experimental studies. The results display an impressive agreement with both the experimentally observed magnetic domains in individual particles as well as the shape of the hysteresis loops. The simulation results then explain features in the hysteresis loops in terms of vortice formation and motion.
