A Comparison Study Of Input Scanning Resolution Requirements For Am And Fm Screening, Kenneth Elsman Apr 1999

A Comparison Study Of Input Scanning Resolution Requirements For Am And Fm Screening, Kenneth Elsman

Theses

The advent of computers and their impact on the graphic arts and printing industry has, and will continue to, change the methodology of working and workflow in prepress operations. The conversion of analog materials (prints, artwork, transparencies, studio work) into a digital format requires the use of scanners or digital cameras, coupled with the knowledge of output requirements as related to client expectations. The chosen input sampling ratio (sampling rate in relation to halftone screening) impacts output quality, as well as many aspects of prepress workflow efficiency. The ability to predict printed results begins with the correct conversion of originals …

Muir Center Newsletters (1981-2015)

NEWSLETTER c Reconstructing John Mum's First Public Lecture, Sacramento, 1876 by Steve Pauly, Pleasant Hill, California (Editor's Note: In our previous issue, Steve Pauley's article placed John Muir's first public talk in context. Wmere is his re-creation of some sections of the talk.) n the beginning of the long glacial winter, the lofty Sierra seems to have consisted of one vast undulated wave, in which a thousand separate mountains, with their domes and spires, their innumerable canons and lake basins, lay concealed. In the development of these, the Master Builder chose for a tool, not the earthquake nor lightning to …

An Analysis Of The Factors That Influence Student Performance: A Fresh Approach To An Old Debate, Sanjiv Jaggia, Alison Kelly-Hawke Apr 1999

An Analysis Of The Factors That Influence Student Performance: A Fresh Approach To An Old Debate, Sanjiv Jaggia, Alison Kelly-Hawke

Economics

There is a general consensus that student performance at all levels has been deteriorating. Despite numerous attempts by researchers to link school expenditures with student performance, a clear relationship does not exist. Since a number of difficulties plague earlier studies, this paper attempts to remedy these problems by offering a better data design and a sounder methodology. This study uses the 1992 Massachusetts Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) test scores from 4th, 8th, and 12th grade students to measure student performance. Since each students grade falls into one of five possible categories, the application of an ordered log it model incorporates …

Pretty Tree Bench Vegetation Project, Draft Environmental Impact Statement, Usda Forest Service Apr 1999

Pretty Tree Bench Vegetation Project, Draft Environmental Impact Statement, Usda Forest Service

All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)

This Draft Environmental Impact Statement documents the analysis of the No Action, Proposed Action, and three action alternatives developed for the Pretty Tree Bench Project area. The Proposed Action and action alternatives considered in detail, are consistent with current management direction. Each alternative responds differently to the issues associated with the Proposed Action.

The Proposed Action prescribes disturbances within a number of different vegetation types throughout the project area. One disturbance practice uses prescribed fire. The acres of treatment by vegetation type through the use of prescribed fire are: Sagebrush (200-250 acres), Gambel Oak (450-500 acres), Pinyon/Juniper (3000-3500 acres), Ponderosa …

Race, Ethnicity And Use Of The National Park System, Dr. Myron Floyd, National Park Service, Department Of The Interior Apr 1999

Race, Ethnicity And Use Of The National Park System, Dr. Myron Floyd, National Park Service, Department Of The Interior

All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)

This paper reviews the social science literature on racial and ethnic minority use of the National Park System. Four theoretical perspectives are examined--the marginality hypothesis, subcultural hypothesis, assimilation theory, and the discrimination hypothesis. Each perspective is described, and its strengths and limitations discussed. Research on race, ethnicity, and participation in outdoor recreation is also examined. Studies consistently show that racial and ethnic groups visit national parks and participate in recreation activities at differing rates. The style and pattern of park use also vary among racial and ethnic groups. Social science research on this topic can help park managers serve the …

In this study of college students taking a science test or a social science test under non-consequential conditions, performance was positively correlated with self-reported motivation. The association, though, was smaller for students of lower ability (as measured by the SAT).
