Analysis Of Intersectoral Linkages Between Agriculture And Industry In Nigeria, M I. Abudu Jun 1999

Analysis Of Intersectoral Linkages Between Agriculture And Industry In Nigeria, M I. Abudu

CBN Occasional Papers

This paper uses time series data to analyse the relationship between agricultural growth and industrial performance for the three-decade period 1966 - 1995. Agricultural growth influences industry in many ways. It provides the raw materials needed by industry; it creates direct demand for the output of consumption goods of industries and indirect demand for the output of basic and capital goods industries. Analysing the input-output coefficients, the paper found that most primary and secondary commodity groups have weak backward and forward linkages, while the quantitative relationships between agricultural growth and industrial performance were non-significant, even when lagged. However, the link …

Decision Making Under Interval Probabilities, Ronald R. Yager, Vladik Kreinovich Jun 1999

Decision Making Under Interval Probabilities, Ronald R. Yager, Vladik Kreinovich

Departmental Technical Reports (CS)

If we know the probabilities p(1),...,p(n) of different situations s1,...,sn, then we can choose a decision Ai for which the expected benefit C(i)=p(1)*c(i,1)+...+p(n)*c(i,n) takes the largest possible value, where c(i,j) denotes the benefit of decision Ai in situation sj. In many real life situations, however, we do not know the exact values of the probabilities p(j); we only know the intervals [p-(j),p+(j)] of possible values of these probabilities. In order to make decisions under such interval probabilities, we would like to generalize the notion of expected benefits to interval probabilities. In this paper, we show that natural requirements lead to …

The Misa 1, A Agricultural Machine With Demining Capabilities, Detlef Schulz Jun 1999

The Misa 1, A Agricultural Machine With Demining Capabilities, Detlef Schulz

The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction

The MiSa 1 mobile plant by the BIGAT Engineering Office for Processing of Waste Ltd. is a agricultural machine designed to pick up and sift through soil, separate out metal fragments and undergrowth, and replace the cleaned soil. While BIGAT envisions many uses for the MiSa I mobile plant, they are particularly encouraged by its performance as an aid for mine clearance. The MiSa I is capable of clearing specific minefield areas of vegetation that is up to 15 years old, while at the same time sifting through the soil to a depth of 50cm, cleaning the soil of all …

In Search Of Common Ground: Developing Partnerships For Wolf Recovery In The Adirondack Park, William B. Morton

Taproot: A Journal of Outdoor Education

Editors note: What follows is a condensation of a presentation to the Adirondack Conservation Council on December 13, 1998. While focus is on wolf recovery in the Adirondacks, the pros and cons of the issue are germane to other locales in the United States.

It is a rather daunting task to try to build a wolf recovery partnership, given the climate of public opinion among Adirondackers about wolf recovery. But try we must.
