An Experiential Curriculum For Elementary School In Japan, Tomoko Seki
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
Objective: To promote a curriculum encouraging experiential education in a safe environment for learners in Japan.
Method: This study discusses the history and background of experiential learning, its practical examples from Western countries, the Japanese education system, problems in schools, the current status of experiential learning in Japan, and strategies for its introduction into schools. In addition to the discussion, concrete lessons designed for public elementary schools are presented.
Results: Prior to the initiation of comprehensive learning, student-driven approaches like inquiry-based learning were not prevalent, and issues such as student apathy were observed. Therefore, methods to enhance their engagement were …

The Compensation Of Resident Assistants And Its Results On Ra Retention, Beth Muszynski
The Compensation Of Resident Assistants And Its Results On Ra Retention, Beth Muszynski
Honors Capstones
This study examines the role of compensation in relation to the resident assistant position. The purpose of the research is to evaluate if the compensation packages currently offered affect RA retention. This is the first type of research completed on RA compensation so there is little former research to refer to. Yet, ample research has been done on general compensation practices, and the most recent shows the theory, "you get what you pay for," as a current industry trend. This study used a survey to collect information from volunteer resident assistants by means of five public, Illinois universities. Subjects were …
The Effects Of Speaking Rate Alternation On Nasalance Scores Of Individuals With Hearing Impairments, Kathleen L. Morrell
The Effects Of Speaking Rate Alternation On Nasalance Scores Of Individuals With Hearing Impairments, Kathleen L. Morrell
Honors Capstones
The purpose of the following study was to investigate the effects of changes of rate on the degree of nasalance in speakers with normal hearing and speakers with impaired hearing. Specifically, the following questions were asked: 1. Are speakers with impaired hearing able to manipulate rate in a fashion consistent with speakers with normal hearing? 2. Does nasalance, as measured using nasometry, increase with an increase in rate in speakers with normal hearing and speakers with impaired hearing? The study consisted often English speaking subjects, five with normal hearing and five with hearing impairments. All subjects were assessed using the …

A Doctrine Adrift: Land Use Regulation And The Substantive Due Process Of Lawton V. Steele In The Supreme Court Of Washington, Susan Boyd
Washington Law Review
Although substantive due process theory has lost much of its force as a local policymaking tool in the federal courts, the doctrine has played a significant role in the land use policies of Washington State. Relying on an ancient U.S. Supreme Court case, Lawton v. Steele, the Supreme Court of Washington has declared that legislation permitting government to pass the social costs of low-income housing demolition on to individual developers through development impact fees is "unduly oppressive" on those individuals and thus violates substantive due process. This Comment argues that the substantive due process doctrine the Supreme Court of …
Ferc's Dam Decommissioning Authority Under The Federal Power Act, Beth C. Bryant
Ferc's Dam Decommissioning Authority Under The Federal Power Act, Beth C. Bryant
Washington Law Review
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) asserted in a 1994 Policy Statement that it has the authority under the Federal Power Act to deny a new license for a hydroelectric dam or impose environmental conditions on a new license that may render a project unprofitable, when doing so is in the public interest. In addition, FERC stated that it would impose decommissioning costs on the dam owner. The hydroelectric industry claims that FERC lacks the authority to take these actions, and that if maintaining a dam is no longer in the public interest, either the federal government or another party …

Clinostomum Marginatum (Yellow Grub) Metacercaris In Black Bass From The Caddo River In West Arkansas, James J. Daly Jr., H. Michael Matthews, Randal J. Keller, James J. Daly
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
Seventy-two bass (Micropterus-spp.), mostly smallmouth, were collected from three areas of the Caddo River in west Arkansas and examined for the presence of Clinostomum marginatum metacercariae. Prevalence, mean abundance, and abundance for all fish were 68%, and 4.2 ±6.5, and 30, respectively. Fish from the upstream area near the headwaters were more heavily infested than those from further downstream. A gill/total body larval ratio of seven, was found for bass from another Arkansas stream, was examined as a predictor for total Clinostomum populations instream bass. Using the formula gill parasites X seven divided by N(72), a value of 3.3 was …
Effects Of Varied Intensity Resistance Training In Combination With Extra Mass-Bearing Exercise On Bone Adaptations In Ovariectomized And Sham Operated Sprague Dawley Rats, Donna Quimby, Kathy Hall
Effects Of Varied Intensity Resistance Training In Combination With Extra Mass-Bearing Exercise On Bone Adaptations In Ovariectomized And Sham Operated Sprague Dawley Rats, Donna Quimby, Kathy Hall
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
This experiment was designed to study the effects of intensity of exercise on bone adaptations in ovariectomized and sham operated 12 week old rats. Eighty Sprague Dawley rats were divided by mass into two equal groups (mean = 197 g). One group was ovariectomized (OVX); the other sham (S) operated. Each surgery group was then subdivided by mass into four exercise intensity groups. The exercise intensity groups were created by loading additional mass (percent of animals body mass, 0%, 3%, 6% and 9%) on each animal in combination with treadmill running (10 m/min.; 30 min./day; 4 days/wk.; for 7 weeks). …

The Deacon: Ministry Through Words Of Faith And Acts Of Love, Benjamin Hartley, Paul E. Van Buren
The Deacon: Ministry Through Words Of Faith And Acts Of Love, Benjamin Hartley, Paul E. Van Buren
Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology
From the moment the 1996 General Conference of The United Methodist Church reordered its ministry and adopted the new Order of Deacon, there has been much speculation on the meaning of the new Order, how it should be developed, and what difference it should make. (Some saw no reason for the new Order or could not grasp the reason for such an Order, and others thought they knew all the answers and have judged the establishment of the deacon on their understandings.)
The Section of Deacons and Diaconal Ministries in the Division of Ordained Ministry has the responsibility of resourcing …
A Critical Literature Review Of Eating Disorders: Anorexia Nervosa And Bulimia Nervosa, Leighanna Jacen Lucas
A Critical Literature Review Of Eating Disorders: Anorexia Nervosa And Bulimia Nervosa, Leighanna Jacen Lucas
Whittier Scholars Program
This senior project is a research paper on the literature of eating disorders and also includes a case study. The student writes, Rather than viewing eating disorders simplistically and only investigating the most common forms, which are anorexia and bulimia, current researchers are now embracing the idea of continuum. This continuum paradigm is most comprehensive in that it assigns a gradation to the various forms of eating disorder complexes, according to the degree of disease. (For example: from simple short-term diets to diagnosable anorexia.) A secondary purpose of this continuum is to organize the full-blown disorder in a series dependent …
