Its programs enhance quality of life for lesbian, gay and bisexual youth through empowerment-focussed counselling, action research, advocacy and community development, and community education. Archaeological Reports

An intensive archaeological survey was conducted at the James and Ellen G. White House site (20CA118) in Battle Creek, Michigan over a seven-week period from May 4-June 24, 1998. The house is a well-known local landmark that was occupied from 1856-1863 by a family that was instrumental in founding the Seventh-day Adventist denominational movement. Although the original site has been subdivided and subjected to significant modification since the third quarter of the 19th century, the 1856 wood-frame Greek Revival house remains extant. Investigations were oriented towards identifying the presence of subsurface archaeological remains and site features that can inform about …

Fall 1998 Raptor Migrations Study In The Wellsville Mountains Of Northern Utah, United States Department Of Agriculture, Forest Service

Elusive Documents

The Wellsville Mountains raptor migration study in northern Utah is an ongoing effort to monitor longterm trends in populations of raptors using this northern Rocky Mountain migratory flyway. Raptors feed atop food pyramids, inhabit most ecosystems, occupy large home ranges, and are sensitive to environmental contamination and other human disturbances. Therefore, they serve as important biological indicators of ecosystem health (Cade et al. 1988; Bednarz et al. 1990a; Bildstein and Zalles 1995). For example, long-term migration counts in the eastern United States documented declines in several raptor species and helped us understand the deleterious effects of organochlorine pesticides (Spofford 1969, …

Getting The Goods Delivered In Dense Urban Areas: A Snapshot Of The Last Link Of The Supply Chain, Anne G. Morris, Alain L. Kornhauser, Mark Kay

Department of Marketing Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Data were analyzed from 74 "Freight Mobility Interviews" - surveys conducted with key transportation executives whose products and services are shipped into New York City's central business district (CBD). Quantitative data collected included company profiles, defined by product category; kind of transportation service; type of distribution channel; characteristics of dispatched truck trip; and time and cost for last leg of trip. Major barriers to freight mobility identified by logistics/distribution/ transportation managers were widespread congestion, theft/vandalism, inadequate docking space, and insufficient curbside parking for commercial vehicles. Recommendations to increase productivity in the CBD included off-peak and extended delivery hours, additional truck …

Development in vitro is influenced by embryo density, serum, somatic cell co-culture and the production of 'embryotrophic' paracrine and autocrine factors. Research in our laboratory has focussed principally on the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) family. We have demonstrated that pre-attachment bovine and ovine embryos express mRNAs encoding a number of growth factor ligand and receptor genes including all members of the IGF ligand and receptor family throughout this developmental interval. In addition, early embryos express mRNAs encoding IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs) 2-5 from the one-cell to the blastocyst stage and IGFBP5 mRNA at the blastocyst stage. Cultured bovine blastocysts release up …

Management Accounting Practice And Price Calculation At Boulton And Watt's Soho Foundry: A Late 18th Century Example, Robert Williams Jan 1999

Management Accounting Practice And Price Calculation At Boulton And Watt's Soho Foundry: A Late 18th Century Example, Robert Williams

Accounting Historians Journal

When deciding upon the price to charge for one of their products, the managers of the Soho Foundry in Birmingham placed great reliance upon the data stored in their accounting system. By the last decade of the 18th century, the nature of the steam engine business was changing rapidly and reputation alone was insufficient to attract customers. Also, as more industrialists decided upon steam as a source of power and competition to supply their needs increased, more attention had to be paid to price structures. The increasing standardization of products meant that a price list could be determined. The partners …
