Environmental Assessments (WY)

The Bureau of Land Management is responsible for the welfare of wild horses. The wild horse program is under constant scrutiny by the public for actions concerning wild horse management and gathering. Within the Rawlins field office (RFO) there is a substantial acreage of "checkerboard" lands. Approximately 50 percent of these lands are BLM-administered public lands and 50 percent are private lands controlled by many private entities. The northern portition of the gather area contains this type of land pattern.

On The Trail Of Sidney O'Brien: An Inquiry Into Her Family And Status - Was She A Slave Or Servant Of The Gettys Family In Gettysburg? Was Her Daughter, Getty Ann, A Descendant Of James Gettys?, Elwood W. Christ

Adams County History

Like many Decembers in the greater Adams county area, the beginning of the winter usually is a collage of intermittent warm spells spliced amongst Arctic days with cold Canadian northwest winds. Amid the hoopla, as Gettysburgians prepared for the 1873 Christmas holidays during the week between the 17th and 24th of December, a person had, as Alfred Lord Tennyson so eloquently described, "Crossed the Bar." But in the local newspapers there had been no notice of declining health. No death notice appeared. Possibly the cost of five cents a line "for all over four lines- cash to accompany the notice" …

The Red Road Approach To Healing As Used In Native American Adolescent Addiction Treatment, Colleen M. Husak Jan 1999

The Red Road Approach To Healing As Used In Native American Adolescent Addiction Treatment, Colleen M. Husak

Graduate Research Papers

Traditional treatment programs have not worked with Native Americans. Instead, programs designed to be culturally sensitive are needed (Burn, 1992). In this paper, the author will explore the specific theory of the Red Road approach as used in Native American adolescent substance abuse treatment facilities. The Red Road approach is practical in its psychological application at the same time that it incorporates and encourages the spiritual beliefs which are a major part of the philosophy of most Native Americans (Black Elk & Lyon, 1991). As Black Elk and Lyons (1991) noted, even Native Americans who no longer practice their ancestral …

Health Care Providers And Fraud Investigations: What Can You Do When The Goverment Changes The Rules In The Middle Of The Game?, Gordon E. Rountree Jr.

Annals of Health Law and Life Sciences

Mr. Rountree addresses the federal government's multi-pronged attack on health care fraud and focuses on the options available to health care providers who are under investigation by the government. The article proposes three potential responses to fraud investigations, including: (1) lobbying the government for relief, (2) suing the government; or (3) waiting to defend or settle the fraud action. After analyzing each method, Mr. Rountree concludes that an aggressive lobbying campaign is likely to be the most successful of the three possible provider responses.

Predictive Validity Of The "Ready Of Not" System For The Assessment Of Students Needing Remediation In Music Theory, Timothy A. Smith Jan 1999

Predictive Validity Of The "Ready Of Not" System For The Assessment Of Students Needing Remediation In Music Theory, Timothy A. Smith

Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy

A perennial problem in the teaching of music theory is how to identify students who are insufficiently prepared for the harmony/ear-training sequence. If it is a logistical problem - how to convene, grade, and advise such a throng before registration, it is also a problem of assessment - what skills and knowledge should one test, how exactly should a student proficient with the major key signatures (but not minor) be advised, and how poorly must one perform to be steered onto the remedial route? To solve the first problem, some instructors have devised computerized versions of paper-and-pencil tests. While such …

The Effect Of Peripheral Neuropathy On Balance Performance In Community-Dwelling Adults With Type I Diabetes Mellitus, Laura Eckel Jan 1999

The Effect Of Peripheral Neuropathy On Balance Performance In Community-Dwelling Adults With Type I Diabetes Mellitus, Laura Eckel

Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects

Purpose: Balance is affected by visual, somatosensory, proprioceptive, and vestibular input. Anything that alters one of these elements could potentially cause a decrease in postural stability. One disease which reduces the somatosensory input from the foot and ankles is diabetic neuropathy. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between Type I DM and balance performance, thereby adding to the current knowledge of postural control and the impact, if any, DM has on balance.

Methods: Twenty-five volunteer subjects with Type I DM and 25 age-matched control subjects participated in the study. Semmes-Weinstein monofilaments were used to determine plantar …
