Models Of Fsa Guaranteed Loan Use Volume And Loss Claims Among Arkansas Commercial Banks, Bruce L. Dixon, Bruce L. Ahrendsen, Scott M. Mccollum

AAES Research Reports and Research Bulletins

The Farm Service Agency (FSA) guaranteed loan programs are an important source of credit to production agriculture. The two major guaranteed loan programs are the operating loan (OL) program and the farm ownership (FO) loan program. Guaranteed loans insure payment to the lender of up to 95% of the losses in the event of borrower default. FSA has historically been involved in lending to farm operators via direct loans, but emphasis has changed over the last two decades to making guaranteed loans the primary source of FSA associated lending to production agriculture. This study seeks to determine what characteristics of …

Evolutionary And Acclimation-Induced Variation In The Heat-Shock Responses Of Congeneric Marine Snails (Genus Tegula) From Different Thermal Habitats: Implications For Limits Of Thermotolerance And Biogeography, Lars Tomanek, George N. Somero Nov 1999

Somero

Biological Sciences

Heat stress sufficient to cause cellular damage triggers the heat-shock response, the enhanced expression of a group of molecular chaperones called heat-shock proteins (hsps). We compared the heat-shock responses of four species of marine snails of the genus Tegula that occupy thermal niches differing in absolute temperature and range of temperature. We examined the effects of short-term heat stress and thermal acclimation on the synthesis of hsps of size classes 90, 77, 70 and 38 kDa by measuring incorporation of (35)S-labeled methionine and cysteine into newly synthesized proteins in gill tissue. Temperatures at which enhanced synthesis of hsps first occurred …

Aurelia: A Crow Creek Trilogy, Elizabeth Cook-Lynn Nov 1999

Aurelia: A Crow Creek Trilogy, Elizabeth Cook-Lynn

Elizabeth Cook-Lynn Collection

A collection of three novellas spanning several decades, Aurelia tells of the invasion of Indian lands, the destruction of a river--the Missouri, or Mni Sosa--in the twentieth century, the continued failure of the people of the Northern Plains (both Indian and white) to refute historical fraud, and the grief and joy of an American Indian family.
The first novella in this collection, From the River's Edge (first published as a single volume by Arcade Publishing, 1991), is the story of John Tatekeya's (tah-tAY-kee-ya) efforts to obtain reparation in a white man's court for forty-five head of stolen cattle. Even as …

The Swabian War Of 1499: 500 Years Since Switzerland's Last War Of Independence, Albert Winkler Nov 1999

The Swabian War Of 1499: 500 Years Since Switzerland's Last War Of Independence, Albert Winkler

Swiss American Historical Society Review

Exactly 500 years ago, the Swiss Confederation faced the final threat to its existence by the Habsburg family, and the occurrence is noteworthy for several reasons. The Swabian War was the last of a series of conflicts reaching back centuries in which the Swiss states had to ward off determined invasions from an external foe. Significantly, they did not have to do so again for nearly three centuries when the French armies overran the Confederation in 1798. The Swabian War also ended the threat of Habsburg or Austrian domination which had been a serious menace for many generations. The survival …

Portal Imaging Using A Csi (Tl) Scintillator Coupled To A Cooled Ccd Camera, Amit Sawant Nov 1999

Portal Imaging Using A Csi (Tl) Scintillator Coupled To A Cooled Ccd Camera, Amit Sawant

Theses and Dissertations (ETD)

The purpose of this research was to design a high performance digital portal imaging
system, using a transparent x-ray scintillator coupled to a cooled CCD camera. Theoretical
analysis using Monte Carlo simulation was performed to calculate the QDE, SNR and DQE of
the system. A prototype electronic portal imaging device (EPID) was built, using a 12.7 mm
thick, 20.32 cm diameter, CsI (Tl) scintillator, coupled to an Astromed ® liquid nitrogen cooled
CCD TV camera. The system geometry of the prototype EPID was optimized to achieve high
spatial resolution. Experimental evaluation of the prototype EPID was performed, by
determining its …

Management Directions For Western Australia's Estuarine And Marine Embayment Fisheries : A Strategic Approach To Management., Fisheries Western Australia

Fisheries Management Papers

This paper does not attempt to provide solutions to individual fishery problems, nor to all of the strategic problems, nor does it claim to evaluate all the options available to managers. Rather, the paper is intended to trigger discussion as to how all interest groups can work together to achieve a balance for these fisheries and their environment. It is a starting point.

Review Of The Western Australian Pilchard Fishery 12 -16 April 1999, K. L. Cochane

Fisheries Management Papers

A workshop was held on Monday 12 April 1999 at which presentations were made by representatives of Fisheries WA, speakers from other state fisheries agencies and the Western Australian (WA) pilchard industry. This workshop identified some of the key concerns in the assessment and management of the fishery. This report presents the conclusions reached by the reviewer at the end of the process, which were also presented to members of the WA pilchard fishing industry in Albany on Friday 16 April.

Beyond "Harm": Abandoning The Actual Injury Standard For Certain Prohibited Takings Under The Endangered Species Act By Giving Independent Meaning To "Harassment", Alicia M. Griffin

Vanderbilt Law Review

As new technology and a desire for progress propel us into the next millennium, a corresponding daily depletion of national and worldwide wildlife resources perpetuates the frightening biological problem of species extinction, resulting in "irreplaceable losses" to medicine, science, ecology, and aesthetics. Every species is a part of the intricate and complicated ecosystem; its stability depends on the continued existence of each of its components. Each black-footed ferret, blue whale, and red wolf contributes to the delicate "balance of nature," a state of ecology that must be maintained for humans to survive. Indeed, scientists have derived much-needed knowledge from other …
