Exploration And Analysis Of Corporate Social Responsibility: A Study Of Corporate Social Responsibility And Minnesota Organizations, Jessica A. Viljaste May 1999

Exploration And Analysis Of Corporate Social Responsibility: A Study Of Corporate Social Responsibility And Minnesota Organizations, Jessica A. Viljaste

Theses and Graduate Projects

This study was designed explore the importance and increase of corporate social responsibility and determine what response level of behavior and actions select Minnesota based organizations are currently practicing using the model and measurements of S. Prakash Sethi's "Dimensions of Corporate Social Performance: An Analytical Framework."

The results of my research show that the majority of the Minnesota organizations surveyed claim to be currently practicing at least proscriptive or reactive levels of behavior and action. More organizations claimed their behavior and actions as preventative in regard to their ethical norms, social accountability, and operating strategy than the other dimensions. One …

Faculty Scholarship

LEAF submits that the heterosexual definition of spouse ins. 29 of the Family Law Act R. S.O. 1990 c. F .3 completely denies lesbians who otherwise meet the tl:1reshoid criteria to apply for a support award. The effect of this denial violates lesbians' right to equal benefit and protection of the law contrary to s. 15(1) of the Charter, and cannot be justified under s.1 of the Charter.

A Guide To Image Preparation For Multiple Media, Ai-Leen Chiu May 1999

A Guide To Image Preparation For Multiple Media, Ai-Leen Chiu

Theses

With the advanced technology in this information requisite world, the way of communication has been changed into using multiple media. People use different media to publish their ideas, not just on paper. The same information may be presented in different formats because of different purposes or situations. However, each of the four major media (print, Web, CD-ROM, and video) has different capabilities for displaying image information. Images optimized for one will not necessarily work well with the others. It happens all the time that people spend much time remanipulating an image which has already been made for another media. For …

Comparison Of Models To Estimate Genetic Effects For Weaning Weight Of Angus Cattle, J. Dodenhoff, L. Dale Van Vleck, D. E. Wilson May 1999

Comparison Of Models To Estimate Genetic Effects For Weaning Weight Of Angus Cattle, J. Dodenhoff, L. Dale Van Vleck, D. E. Wilson

Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications

Weaning weights from nine sets of Angus field data from three regions of the United States were analyzed. Six animal models were used to compare two approaches to account for an environmental dam-offspring covariance and to investigate the effects of sire × herd-year interaction on the genetic parameters. Model 1 included random direct and maternal genetic, maternal permanent environmental, and residual effects. Age at weaning was a covariate. Other fixed effects were age of dam and a herd-year-management-sex combination. Possible influence of a dam’s phenotype on her daughter’s maternal ability was modeled by including a regression on maternal phenotype (f …

Comparative Habitat And Diet Selection Of Muskoxen And Reindeer On The Seward Peninsula, Western Alaska, Claudia Ihl May 1999

Comparative Habitat And Diet Selection Of Muskoxen And Reindeer On The Seward Peninsula, Western Alaska, Claudia Ihl

Biological Sciences

Factors influencing choice of feeding sites, cratering microsites and diets of reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) and reintroduced muskoxen (Ovibos moschatos) were examined on the Seward Peninsula, western Alaska, during late winters of 1996 and 1997. Both ungulates foraged primarily in upland habitats with low snow depth, relatively high occurrence of lichens and low occurrence of graminoids. Both selected against snow depth when choosing feeding sites and against snow depth and hardness when selecting cratering areas within feeding sites. Diet selection differed between species. Reindeer selected mainly lichens while muskoxen selected more sedge and moss. Few behavioral interactions between species were observed, …

Life-History Consequences Of Maternal Condition In Alaskan Moose, Mark A. Keech May 1999

Life-History Consequences Of Maternal Condition In Alaskan Moose, Mark A. Keech

Biological Sciences

We studied characteristics of life-history of Alaskan moose (Alces alces gigas) including the effects of maternal condition of adult females on survival and physical condition of young during their first year-of-life. We also examined the relation between maternal condition and reproductive parameters of individual adult moose. We found that females in better physical condition, as indexed by rump-fat thickness, had higher rates of pregnancy, gave birth to more twins, and produced young with higher birth masses than did females with less rump fat. Expected time-to-death for individual young increased as birth mass increased and decreased with increasing birth date and …

Law And Order, Abuse Of Power: A Study In Light And Shadow, Daniel J. Shea May 1999

Law And Order, Abuse Of Power: A Study In Light And Shadow, Daniel J. Shea

Dissertations and Theses

In this installation piece, I am creating an environment, a stage if you will, to inform viewers through visual images, shadows and projections, to bear witness to an injustice through the machinations of the state. Philosophically and metaphorically, the piece is a walk through Plato's cave in search of the truth of things formerly perceived as shadows; it is also an allusion to illusions that are both transparent and opaque. It is a critique of "justice" and the administration thereof. There are elements of two and three dimensions employing drawing, painting, etching, photography, sound and a video projection. Materials include …

Equine Osteoarthritis: A Comparison Of Type 1 And Type 2 Conditions, Wendy Chadbourne May 1999

Equine Osteoarthritis: A Comparison Of Type 1 And Type 2 Conditions, Wendy Chadbourne

Theses

In what originally began as research to answer my own questions about osteoarthritis, I learned as much as I could from reading anatomy, veterinary, and physiology books. I had to look in many places to find all the answers I wanted. The books that provided the best visual information lacked text to explain the images, and the books that provided the best text definitions usually provided simplified illustrations or very confusing clinical photographs. While trying to unite the best images with the best text explaining what was going on, an idea was formed. I decided to combine clear images with …
