Finding Cyclic Redundancy Check Polynomials For Multilevel Systems, James A. Davis, Miranda Mowbray, Simon Crouch
Finding Cyclic Redundancy Check Polynomials For Multilevel Systems, James A. Davis, Miranda Mowbray, Simon Crouch
Department of Math & Statistics Faculty Publications
This letter describes a technique for finding cyclic redundancy check polynomials for systems for transmission over symmetric channels which encode information in multiple voltage levels, so that the resulting redundancy check gives good error protection and is efficient to implement. The codes which we construct have a Hamming distance of 3 or 4. We discuss a way to reduce burst error in parallel transmissions and some tricks for efficient implementation of the shift register for these polynomials. We illustrate our techniques by discussing a particular example where the number of levels is 9, but they are applicable in general.

Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth is a program of surveys of young people conducted by ACER with funding from the Commonwealth Department of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs. The surveys focus on the education and labour market experiences of groups of young Australians, beginning from their middle years of secondary schooling. Data collected include basic demographic variables, as well as information about educational and labour force participation extending over a number of years. The school survey Students participating in LSAY were originally sampled in 1995 from 298 schools nationally. In 1996 the schools from which the original sample of …

Use Of Another's Trademark In A Web Page Meta Tag: Why Liability Should Not Ensue Under The Lanham Act For Trademark Infringement, Michael R. Sees
Texas Wesleyan Law Review
This Comment argues that liability for trademark infringement should not ensue under the Lanham Act when an unauthorized user incorporates a senior holder's registered trademark in a web page meta tag.4 Part I discusses the Lanham Act and the various elements that must be satisfied in order to prevail on a cause of action for trademark infringement. Part II provides a background of the Internet and World Wide Web. Part III discusses how a typical cause of action for trademark infringement in this situation may arise. Part IV analyzes the issue and demonstrates why liability should not ensue. In short, …

Microstructures And Mechanical Properties Of Two-Phase Alloys Based On Nbcr2, Katherine C. Chen, Paul G . Kotula, Carl M. Cady, Michael E. Mauro, Dan J. Thoma
Materials Engineering
A two-phase, NbCrTi alloy (bcc + C15 Laves phase) has been developed using several alloy design methodologies. In efforts to understand processing-microstructure-property relationships, different processing routes were employed. The resulting microstructures and mechanical properties are discussed and compared. Plasma arc melted (PAM) samples served to establish baseline, as-cast properties. In addition, a novel processing technique, involving decomposition of a supersaturated and metastable precursor phase during hot isostatic pressing (HIP), was used to produce a refined, equilibrium two-phase microstructure. Quasi-static compression tests as a function of temperature were performed on both alloy types. Different deformation mechanisms were encountered based upon temperature …
