A Novel Regulatory Mechanism Of Glycolysis Via Glycolytic Enzyme-Tubulin Interactions: Modulation By Protein-Tyrosine Kinase Phosphorylation Of Tubulin., K. Warren Volker Jan 1998

A Novel Regulatory Mechanism Of Glycolysis Via Glycolytic Enzyme-Tubulin Interactions: Modulation By Protein-Tyrosine Kinase Phosphorylation Of Tubulin., K. Warren Volker

Theses and Dissertations

Glycolytic enzymes have been shown to bind to the cytoskeletal protein, tubulin. These protein-protein interactions have been hypothesized to provide compartmentation of glycolysis in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells via the cytoskeleton, a component of the microtrabecular lattice.Previously, in my thesis work, it was determined that four enzymes of glycolysis (glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, aldolase, pyruvate kinase, and lactate dehydrogenase-muscle type) had high affinity for the $\alpha$-subunit C-terminal region of tubulin. When this region was removed proteolytically, binding was diminished. The localization of the glycolytic enzyme domain on tubulin, phosphorylation of this domain, and in vivo effects of the domain are investigated …

Synthesis Of Group 4 Metallocenes., Qing Yang Jan 1998

Synthesis Of Group 4 Metallocenes., Qing Yang

Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation is divided into four subjects. They are: (1) the improved synthesis of known group 4 metallocenes; (2) the synthesis of new group 4 metallocenes; (3) the synthesis of new geminal diindenes, potential ligands for highly reactive polyolefin catalysts, and the improved synthesis of a known ligand precursor; and (4) the application of group 4 metallocenes in C-H activation.Rac-EBIZrCl$\sb2$ is prepared in 66% isolated yield via a non-aqueous, non-acidic workup. Additionally, the preparation of ligand precursor 1,2-(3-indenyl)ethane is significantly improved by inverse addition of indenyl anion to 1,2-dibromoethane. (THI)$\rm\sb2TiCl\sb2,$(THI)$\rm\sb2ZrCl\sb2,$ and previously unreported (THI)$\rm\sb2HfCl\sb2$ are prepared in 69%, 67%, and …

Method For Reducing The Generation Of Wear Particulates From An Implant, David A. Pienkowski, Kwon-Yong Lee Jan 1998

Method For Reducing The Generation Of Wear Particulates From An Implant, David A. Pienkowski, Kwon-Yong Lee

Biomedical Engineering Faculty Patents

A method is provided for reducing the amount of wear particulates generated by a total joint orthopaedic implant. The implant consists of two matched articulating components wherein at least one of the components is made of polymer or other material with similar physical properties. The method includes the steps of placing the total joint orthopaedic implant in a fluid bath and articulating the implant in the fluid bath for at least 1,000 cycles. The articulation may be performed in three stages. In the first, the implant is articulated under a load of substantially 0.1-500 Newtons with sliding speeds of substantially …

Sex Effects On Breed Of Sire Differences For Birth, Weaning, And Yearling Weights, L. Dale Van Vleck, Larry V. Cundiff Jan 1998

Sex Effects On Breed Of Sire Differences For Birth, Weaning, And Yearling Weights, L. Dale Van Vleck, Larry V. Cundiff

Department of Animal Science: Faculty Publications

Weights of males and females can be considered to be correlated traits with different averages and variances. This study attempted to determine whether defining traits as expressed in males or in females would change estimates of breed of sire differences needed to calculate across-breed factors for adjustment of within-breed EPD to across-breed EPD. Records from the US Meat Animal Research Center of progeny of Hereford, Angus, and MARC III composite dams mated to 12 sire breeds that had been used to calculate breed of sire adjustments in 1996 were used. Breeds of sire were Hereford, Angus, Shorthorn, Brahman, Simmental, Limousin, …
