Vertical Profiles Of Virus-Like Particles And Bacteria In The Water Column And Sediments Of Chesapeake Bay, Usa, Lisa A. Drake, Keun-Hyung Choi, A. G. Edward Haskell, Fred C. Dobbs

Vertical profiles of virus-like particles (VLPs) and bacteria were determined by near-synoptic sampling through the water column and 15 to 25 cm into the sediment at 5 stations across the mouth of Chesapeake Bay, USA. VLPs were about 10 times more abundant in the pore water (grand mean = 3.6 x 10(8) VLPs ml(-1)) than in the water column (grand mean = 3.8 x 10(7) VLPs ml(-1)). Similarly, bacteria counts were about 3 times higher in the pore water (grand mean = 6.5 x 10(6) bacteria ml(-1)) than in the water column (grand mean = 2.4 x 10(6) bacteria ml(-1)). …

The Form And Substance Of Ethics: Prenatal Diagnosis In The Baird Report, Rachel Ariss

Dalhousie Law Journal

This article analyses the employment of textual tactics in the Final Report of the Royal Commission on New Reproductive Technologies. The author argues that the Commission uses these tactics to persuade several different audiences that its stance is correct, and simultaneously to manage dissent over new reproductive technologies. Analysis of textual tactics opens the ethical position of the Commission to substantive questioning. The authorfocuses on the Commission's discussion of prenatal diagnosis for genetic anomalies and concludes that the Commission fails to engage with ethical arguments put forward by persons with disabilities and their advocates. The goal of this study was to conduct a nongame vertebrate survey at SLNWR by primary habitat types, with emphasis placed on nongame breeding birds and small mammals . Specific objectives were to determine:

Treating Prior Terminations Of Parental Rights As Grounds For Present Terminations, Kathleen Haggard

Washington Law Review

The federal Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997 recognized that in certain egregious circumstances, states need not seek to reunify a family before terminating the rights of abusive and neglectful parents. Washington State responded by revising its termination of parental rights statute to treat parents' violent criminal convictions as sole grounds for terminating parental rights. This Comment argues that the Washington statute should be further amended to recognize that a termination of rights to a previous child may serve as grounds for terminating rights to a present child if the State finds the parent's continuing behavior puts the child …
