Integrating Restorative Justice And Therapeutic Jurisprudence, Robert F. Schopp
Integrating Restorative Justice And Therapeutic Jurisprudence, Robert F. Schopp
Nebraska College of Law: Faculty Publications
Thomas Scheff describes and endorses community conferences intended to develop dispositions of some criminal cases that promote individual and community interests in a manner consistent with Restorative Justice (RJ). He suggests that the research program known as Therapeutic Jurisprudence (TJ) might provide a useful structure for RJ, but he does not provide detailed discussion of the proposed integration of RJ and TJ. This comment clarifies and examines some potentially interesting aspects of such an integration. Section II sketches some central features of TJ and of RJ, and section III considers potential applications of the former to the latter.

Death Penalty Primer: Reviewing International Human Rights Development & The Aba Resolution For A Moratorium On Capital Punishment In Order To Inform Debates In U.S. State Legislatures, Dorean Marguerite Koenig
ILSA Journal of International & Comparative Law
More than half of the world's nations have either abolished or no longer practice the death penalty. I In this coming year, the opportunity for a vast expansion in the number of nations which no longer adhere to the death penalty appears almost certain because of events which occurred in 1997, some of which are detailed here.
International Law And Abolition Of The Death Penalty: Recent Developments, William A. Schabas
International Law And Abolition Of The Death Penalty: Recent Developments, William A. Schabas
ILSA Journal of International & Comparative Law
As a goal for civilized nations, abolition of the death penalty was promoted during the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights' in 1948. It found, however, that expression was only implicit in the recognition of what international human rights law designated "the right to life;" the same approach was taken in the American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man, adopted May 4, 1948.

An Archaeological Survey For The Bexar County Correctional Facility At Cagnon Road, San Antonio, Texas, Diane A. Cargill, Brett A. Houk, David L. Nickels
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
An archaeological survey was conducted near Cagnon Road by the Center for Archaeological Research of The University of Texas for Bexar County. The project area is the proposed location for the Bexar County Correctional Facility. Intensive pedestrian survey and backhoe trenching were employed to determine the presence and depth of cultural material in the project area. One prehistoric site, characterized by a surface lithic scatter, was identified. Due to thin topsoil and agricultural activities, the site exists in a disturbed context. Furthermore, the presence of shallow Cretaceous age subsoil precludes finding buried in situ cultural material in the project area. …
