Towards An Institutional Analysis Of Accounting Change In The Royal Tobacco Factory Of Seville, Salvador Carmona, Mahmoud Ezzamel, Fernando Gutierrez

Accounting Historians Journal

This paper is initially informed by an institutional sociological framework to analyze changes in accounting practices that took place in the Royal Tobacco Factory (RTF) of Seville during the period 1760-1790. We argue that the significantly greater development and use of accounting practices during that period can be linked to the move to the much larger and more purposefully built new factories, the decline in total tobacco consumption, and the pressure to increase revenue for the Spanish Crown while reducing production cost and maintaining high product quality to deter entry. These new accounting practices were developed in part with the …

The Bridge

"Way out in the ocean, the water is as blue as the petals of

the most beautiful cornflower and as clear as the cleanest

glass, but it is very deep, deeper than an anchor cable can

reach; many church steeples would have to be placed one on

top of the other in order to stretch from the bottom up to the

surface of the water. Down there live the Merpeople."

Gender Differences In Retirement Planning : Some Observations On The Case Of Hong Kong, W. K., Kenneth Law

APIAS Working Paper 工作論文

Despite the importance of retirement planning to the maintenance of social and economic well-being in later life (Monk, 1985; Dorfman, 1989, Maule, Cliff, and Taylor, 1996) and in spite of the fact that retirement planning has received increased attention from western gerontology researchers, it is as yet largely missing from the agenda of elderly research in Hong Kong. This paper presents an attempt to introduce some local insights into the subject.

Comparative Study Of The Divorce Laws In California And The Mexican Federal District, Sharilyn R. Payne Jan 1998

Comparative Study Of The Divorce Laws In California And The Mexican Federal District, Sharilyn R. Payne

UC Law SF International Law Review

This Note compares the no-fault divorce laws of California with the fault divorce laws of the Mexican Federal District. It looks at the laws themselves, their histories, how they take the family into account, the divorce rates of both areas, and new trends in divorce laws. This study then attempts to determine whether there is any correlation between divorce rates and the difficulty or ease with which a divorce can be obtained. It stresses the need to conduct this type of analysis before rushing to change the law.
