Journal of Family Strengths

Family Reunion Services, an intensive-home-based service for families whose children are unlikely to return home without additional services, was evaluated. Examining Cultural Identity In The Prediction Of High-Risk Behavior In Latino And Latina Adolescents, Cecilia Maria Duarte

Open Access Master's Theses

The continuing population growth of Latino/a immigrants in the United States has led to an increase in the study of cultural identity and the adaptive processes that shape that identity. The negative effects of immigrant cultural adjustment on the behavior of Latino and Latina adolescents is an area that has received little research attention to date. Using self-report surveys gathered by a federally funded high risk youth project, this study examined the prediction of high risk behavior in a seventh and eighth grade sample of 131 Latino/a adolescents. A four dimensional cultural identity predictor was used in a multiple regression …

Native American Indian Female Students In Higher Education, Becky Youngbear

Graduate Research Papers

Institutional awareness and support are just a start in an effort to retain and assist underrepresented students in college. Among these underrepresented groups are Native American Indians who are challenged to succeed in a Eurocentric higher education setting.

Bibliotherapy : A Technique To Meet The Social And Emotional Needs Of Gifted Adolescents, Carlotta Paul Jan 1998

Bibliotherapy : A Technique To Meet The Social And Emotional Needs Of Gifted Adolescents, Carlotta Paul

Graduate Research Papers

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of developmental bibliotherapy as an instructional technique for resolving social and emotional problems of gifted adolescents. By means of a review of educational and psychological literature, the writer gathered data about the effectiveness of developmental bibliotherapy in treating the social and emotional problems of the gifted described by Delisle and others.

The lack of bibliotherapeutic empirical studies using gifted adolescents as subjects and conflicting studies on the effectiveness of bibliotherapy to alter social and personality problems led the author to conclude that developmental bibliotherapy is still an experimental technique. However, …

Toward A Model Of Work And Family Balance: How Families With Children Having Serious Emotional Disorders Manage Caregiving And Worklife, Julie M. Rosenzweig, Alice Myrth Ogilvie, Eileen M. Brennan

School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations

Employed parents of children with serious emotional disorders must manage the competing demands of home and job. Although every situation is unique, all parents cope daily with the interface between employment and home. As the number of single employed mothers and dual-worker households has increased, so has the research on work and family. A review of this literature offers an examination of the different ways work and family relate within the busy lives of employed parents. Three primary models emerge from the review that describe experiences of mothers and fathers challenged by meeting both the needs of family members and …
