The Effect Of Familiar And Novel Testing Environments On The Gross Motor Function Measure Scores Of Developmentally Normal Children 17-37 Months Old, Tracey Blain, Jean Angel Apr 1998

The Effect Of Familiar And Novel Testing Environments On The Gross Motor Function Measure Scores Of Developmentally Normal Children 17-37 Months Old, Tracey Blain, Jean Angel

Masters Theses

Our purpose in this research was to compare the reliability of the Gross Motor Function Measure in familiar and unfamiliar environments. Discrepancy between clinical assessment results and true motor functional ability may give false information leading to inefficient treatment sessions. Our research gives therapists information about optimal assessment site choice. Subjects included sixteen developmentally normal children between the ages of 17 and 37 months. Our study fit a repeated measure counterbalanced design, and ANOVA was used to analyze our data. We did not reject our null hypothesis that the child’s score on the GMFM in the familiar environment would equal …

Parent-Report Vs. Child-Report Of Specific Anxiety In Siblings Of Children With Autism: Do Parents Know What Their Children Worry About?, Gretchen K. Groh '98

Honors Projects

This project explores the anxiety and specific worries of children who have a sibling diagnosed with autism. There is clinical evidence pertinent to this topic but little published empirical research. In addition, this research explores whether parental perception of child fears is correlated with child-reported fears. Participants were recruited through local support groups for parents of children with autism. The siblings studied ranged in age from six and thirteen. Each child was given a standardized measure of general anxiety in addition to a measure of fears specific to siblings of children with autism (to be developed for this study). Parents …

Students' Perceptions And Supervisors' Rating As Assessments Of Interactive-Constructivist Science Teaching In Elementary School., James Shymansky, Larry Yore, Laura Henriques, John Dunkhase, Jean Bancroft

Educator Preparation & Leadership Faculty Works

This study took place within the context of a four-year local systemic reform effort collaboratively undertaken by the Science Education Center at the University of Iowa and the Iowa City Community School District. The goal of the project was to move teachers towards an interactive-constructivist model of teaching and learning that assumes a middle-of-the-road interpretation of constructivism, where hands-on activities are used selectively and purposefully to challenge students' ideas, promote deep processing, and achieve conceptual change. The research focus of this study was to verify the use of students' perceptions and attitudes and the supervisor's ratings as measures of teachers' …
