The Anchor, Volume 111.20: April 24, 1998, Hope College

The Anchor: 1998

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

The Effects Of Feedback On The Validity Of Facilitated Communication., Jan Karen Witte-Bakken

Theses and Dissertations

Facilitated Communication (FC) is a controversial technique which is purported to allow autistic and other developmentally disabled individuals the ability to communicate through typing in a manner which allowed unexpected literacy skills to emerge. Subsequent research has shown, however, that the facilitator appears to be influencing the resulting messages and valid communications are not obtained when the facilitator does not have access to the same information as the subject. This began with the appearance of writing systems, the invention of the printing press, the telephone, the mass production of audio and video tape recorders, the photocopy machine, the microcomputer, and now the Internet and Worldwide Web (WWW).
